The R7 1700 is renowned as a cool running chip which even the humble NH-L9a can cope with.

This is probably a really dumb question... but how would something like this run on a stock 7820x?

Not dumb at all, and I suspect quite admirably given the materials and surface area. Don't get me wrong, I think it will run warm and overclocking will be quite unlikely, but it should handle well enough.

Im very tempted to try to shove one in my customod mini 3.24l when Dan starts selling these.
It's going to be 8mm too tall but that's nothing a hole in the side panel can't fix.
