Just for fun I am designing a sub-10L case that uses a very boring classic layout. No sandwitch, no PSU-inside-the-case.

It ended up being quite chubby, but I like my small C8.

Specs:
  • layout: classic
  • possible orientations:
    • inverted tower (GPU on top, CPU, PSU)
    • tower (PSU on top, CPU, GPU)
    • horizontal desktop
  • dimensions in horizontal configuration: 140 mm (H) x 280 mm (W) x 220 mm (D) approx.
  • volume: ~9.5L
  • room for many 2.5" HDs (HD cage is still WIP)

Constraints:
  • GPU:
    • max length: ~200 mm
    • max width: dual slot (probably also 2.2)
  • Motherboard: Mini-ITX
  • CPU cooler clearance: 120 mm (designed for NH-C14S)
  • PSU: SFX or SFX-L.
Cool optional stuff:

  • Swappable covers (minimalist cover with no IO? Ton of IO? ODD slot? All possible.)
  • 2x 120 mm fans in the front
  • Support for one vertical or horizontal DVD/Bluray drive (depending on the CPU cooler and the lenght of the PSU)

Why this boring case? Because I do need a powerful CPU (>95 W TDP) and 4 SDD, but I am OK with an average GPU. At the same time I don't like watercooling and I want the ability to fit a very silent air cooler.

And I want the ability to swap front covers to customize the appearance of the front: no IO port, a lot of IO port, ODD slot, etc.

This is just a prototype I am designing for fun. But do you know of any similar case that is already in production?
