You can mount an HDPLEX 250W/300W (or something with the same mounting points) in XS and use an external brick; no need to go for direct plug and worry about clearances.

No doubt about that, but the XS is meant to use standard components (even if the traditional use case is different) There's many layouts I would like to play with using custom solutions. At another time ;)

Thanks! I haven't done extensive testing of it laying horizontal, but I have tried it with both the GPU and CPU side down with 10mm feet for a short period. Overall the temps are worse than standing up. But if you must lay it horizontally, then the CPU side on bottom is definitely the way to go.

Seems to me the solution is just to write in the manual "tighten while making sure the arrow is pointed directly up/down/left/right" It's only possible to fix so many potential human errors ;)
