Small Form Factor Network forum member DriverDaily has posted up plans to make a premium mATX 20L case that focuses on high performance air cooling. The case, which is still in the design phase, is planned to support mATX motherboards with 4-slot GPUs, SFX / SFX-L PSUs, and up to 185mm tall air coolers including the Noctua NH-D15 and ProSiphon Elite. The motherboard layout is a traditional design with no risers and all the issues that come with them. Air flow is aiming for a top to bottom layout.
DriverDaily wants to have the case built of 3mm aluminum with a minimalist design that does not sacrifice on the fit and finish, and referenced the build quality of the Ghost S1 as an example.
This could be a really interesting project that I’m going to be following. DriverDaily has emphasized that their plan is to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness while also using a vertical air flow design. While air coolers have been less in vogue with the latest scorching hot CPUs, the NH-D15 and ProSiphon Elite are quite capable of cooling even an Intel i9 14900K. Putting one of those coolers on a more power friendly CPU, such as a Ryzen 7800X3D, could prove to be a very quiet combo.
Additionally, DriverDaily has also focused on getting heat out of the case with either two 180mm fans, or three 120mm fans mounted in a bottom and top hat design. Additionally, PCIe slot bars have been eliminated to allow for more exhaust flow from GeForce Founders Edition cards. Of course you can also use ITX boards instead of mATX in the design.
Air cooling twenty liters of volume with an RTX 4090 and Intel 14900K a challenge, but the design certainly seems promising.
