ASRock, frequently known for cramming a lot of hardware into a small space, has done it again, cramming an Intel Socket E (LGA4766) onto a “Deep” M-ATX board. To get the “Deep” nomenclature out of the way first, this board measures in at 264 x 266mm, larger in both dimensions compared to regular M-ATX at 244 x 244mm. The *takes a deep breath* ASRock Rack W790D8UD-1L1N2T/BCM is a dense unit with a tonne of expansion.
8x RAM slots, 4x PCIe 5.0 slots (all 16x CPU lanes), 2x 10GbE LAN, 1x 2.5GbE LAN and 1x 1GbE LAN ports give the board some epic IO and expandability. While boards like this will likely end up with a discrete drive controller slotted in, the board does come with 8 SATA 6GB/s ports and a lone M.2 slot. Also to note are a pair of Oculink connectors for storage expansion.
Supporting Intel’s Sapphire Rapids W2400 and W3400 processors, this board can run compatible CPUs from 6 to 56 cores. RAM support is up to 2TB of DDR5-4800.
ASRock Rack rarely sells board to retail, so unfortunately, we may have to wait until they hit the used market in a few years before the server/workstation hardware nuts in the community will get to have a go.
