I am wondering if I should even buy one. They all have tons of poor ratings. And they can fry your equipment when they blow. Why is it so difficult to make these things?

I've had an APC1000 for years and years and it serves me well. I've had to replace the batteries once.
Mine had a $10,000 guarantee if any damage to my appliances occurred so that gave me alot of confidence.

Buy a known brand, such as Eaton, APC or similar. Also, chances are that people with negative views are much more likely to post a review than those with positive views.
