What did you do today?

Oof. You can do it. We all believe in you.

I ended a friendship and created a new tool (software).

:/

What was the new software tool?

Today has been good for me, I got the HDPLEX 300W DC ATX in the mail today. I had previously scrounged a compatible 180W brick. I also convinced 2 people to try and snort a line of Tang for $5 and $15 (neither of them got through the full line so I kept my money and got some free entertainment :D)

I convinced a friend to consider an S4 Mini for his new build. He's really into the S4, but hasn't committed fully. He wants a 1070 in the chassis without too many mods so he's holding out for the Galax 1070.

The other thing I did was finally draft up a document to get all my ideas for my own personal case down somewhere and sort through what I wanted. I'm just having trouble deciding on dimensions right now and whether or not I want to support overheight video cards like Gigabyte's 1070.

I want to create a thread for the project so I can ask for feedback, but I don't want to clutter the workshop with something that might end up being inactive for long stretches of time or even turn up dead halfway through. Should I make a thread?

Of course, worst come to worst it sinks to the bottom of the forums out of sight. You can always bump, no reason not to make a thread!

The tool is something I created to mass-delete one's messages on Discord.

Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the HDPLEX 300W DC ATX. I would not have taken that bet.

This is basically what I did here: https://smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/the-guilleacoustics-mindstorm.920/ I second the thread idea:)
I third the idea of creating a thread for your case idea. RSC - Really Small Case is still running despite the somewhat long stretches of silence. My What The Mac?! thread is even worse in update timing but it's there. Just do it.

Telephone services at the company were down since saturday morning (CET), so I had to hop in and see what's going on. Four hours later, we're still not sure and I can (ofcourse) hardly reach anyone, even on-call people. Probably tomorrow I'll need to drive around and power cycle some phone servers and routers.

Not amuzed but I get the overtime and expenses paid, along with a boss that respects me giving up my free time to fix this.

Today, 5 more hours (up till now) spent on basically waiting for two providers to find technicians that respond to their effing on-call. And guess what, no one's responding or isn't available. Thanks for wasting my weekend by making me wait on people trying to contact you for the responsibility you are paid for, on-call people. This could have been solved in two hours max if someone picked up the phone, which includes the time it took for me to drive to the two sites that were down.

Inb4 "oh sorry, the update we pushed out friday night to the routers was bad it seems". I foresee two providers not having their contract renewed this year.

I hate when I predict things that I don't want to be true...

Relevant:

Oh well, Sunday 5:30pm and my weekend can begin ! Oh wait...

This is why you don't update important stuff on a Friday, especially the night.

Picked up some (frozen) Chicago-style deep dish pizza to enjoy with the family during the Super Ads and (American) football extravaganza.

Don't ask me who I'm rooting for - I've lived too many places to have any tribal loyalty to either of the teams that are playing (and I actually have no idea which teams will be playing).

I ordered a few of these power switch cables with spade connectors, the stock cables are black at $0.99 each, custom sleeving at $5. Not sure how long the sale goes and the cables fairly lengthy at 23", but I figure they're cheap enough to justify obtaining a few for wiring some Anti-Vandal switches in the future.

Prior to ordering, I did some reading on spade connectors and AV switches and am getting confused. How should I consider the switch's LED voltage ratings matter when obtaining one for a PC switch mod? Should I be looking for switches with LED ratings of 5V or 12V? If I get some spade connectors to shorten these, do I just wire one up by crimping?
