I am not having any luck finding a sata optical internal slot drive for ncase for less than 30 bucks. I don't need a hundred dollar blueray drive, just something simple to install drivers, burn pictures, save files etc. Any ideas guys?
Thanks

don't need slim, just slot load 12.7 mm. and don't want to spend 70 bucks on one. But thanks for the reply.

many of the slim slot loads are 9.5 mm. 12.7 is what I want but cannot find a sata for $30 or less. All sorts of IDE/Pata or Apple .
Thanks again .

Another brainfart... If I charged for these I'd be a billionaire!

On the other hand, I think there's a hack to make Apple SATA drives work in a PC, if you're ok with screwing around with that I can try to persuade my boss to sell one of ours. I'll also check to see if we have some non-apple drives at work.

Thanks but no thanks. I don't want to deal with trying to install apple products in this build. I just want a new 12.7 slot drive dvd rom with a bezel on it for under 30 bucks. Anything more than that is giving your money away to me.

I think we need some clarity here. The NCase takes a slot-loading optical drive, with a depth of 12.7mm (front bezel or no bezel, it will fit). You can also find 9.5mm variants. Both sizes are sold as "slim" drives. You are correct, the 9.5mm drives are not suitable for the NCase.

Search for slot-loading optical drive on Amazon and eBay. Some of these drives might be advertised as replacements for HP or Apple computers, but in theory, this doesn't matter apart from branding and possibly a few extra screw holes. Obviously be sure to check first.

Whatever you buy, you will need an adapter, even if you pick a SATA drive. The SATA connectors on these smaller drives are miniaturised for notebooks, so you'll be needing a slimline sata to sata connector.

I did a quick search and this might be what you're after. It is hard to find because slim, slot-loading optical drives for notebooks are dying out. Nobody seems to want them anymore.

Yes , clarity is good! I must apologize for not being clear. This is what I cannot find. My parameters are as follows: 12.7 internal optical drive.......sata........with bezel......under 30.00......new - not used or refurbished ......slot load. Pelican you are right they are dying out and are hard to find. Hence my post on here knowing many of you are more informed on these things than I am.

I didn't think the M1 needed a bezel

Or do you just want it for internal aesthetic reasons?

Yep, a bezel is unnecessary for use in the M1, and may even cause clearance issues (top cover pressing eject button, or even preventing the top cover fully seating.

The drive is adjustable slightly in the Ncase so clearance would not be a problem. No a bezel is not required but I want one for a mod I want to try. So to be clear again, read my previous post completely for what I am looking for. I already know what else is available out there.
Thanks for your posts. Fooey
