With the network connectivity and four memory slots, this seems to be a pretty good bet for compact dedicated servers, and in particular environments that need a lot of them.

Also - yikes, up to 128GB of DDR4 memory! And here I am getting by 16...

That's expensive, but we shouldn't forget your are getting a very capable Xeon D with it.
Anandtech did a review and when comparing against and E3-1230 v3 it beat it almost everytime.
an Intel Xeon E3-1230 retails around just under €300

I really would like a reason to own one of these boards but my NUC running ESXi and Socket 1155 platform used for ZFS NAS do the job really well. I'd also like a reason to go to SFP+ for 10Gbit between NAS and switch, but I'm just not that demanding enough when 70-100MB/s is plenty. Some day though, I'll find an excuse to plop down the cash !
