Can be a good alternative to an i7-7700 if you need the multi-threaded performance. i7-7700 on Amazon is currently $314. Xeon E3-1230 v6 will retail for $250. Note that you need a special chipset on your motherboards for these CPUs to work.

AMD Ryzen also offers great value for those seeking multi-threaded performance.

Xeons become much less viable for non-professional use when they limited them (back) to enterprise chipsets. Although ASRock has a few boards specifically for that purpose !
