The issue is, it takes up space. If your reply is one line, but your signature is an image (or images) taking up 5 lines or more, that's a waste of space, and it's more to scroll through (I know, lazy of me). I mentioned this in the space inefficiency thread, and @confusis recommenced spoiler boxes. So, just as a suggestion (no offense intended) if your signature is 3 or 4+ lines, put it in a spoiler box, and keep this forum SFF friendly! 
Note: If you aren't aware of how to use spoiler boxes-
1. High lite the stuff you want in the box.
2. Click the little "insert" button (after the media insertion tools), and select spoiler.
3. Give it a title and click ok.
