You know wccftech links are like shooting shotguns in the woods. So many pellets, they’ve got to hit at at least something every once in a while

Hopefully this is one that does hit the mark. Think of the power a 2L case could have with those numbers.

i take all of their articles with a pound of salt. that being said, i've been waiting for this level of APU to come to fruition for years and i'm all too more than willing to believe this rumour.

Maybe it is true after all but here is the $1 million question: Could they fit all of this (APU die + HBM memory) into the AM4 package's current footprint? If they can, they may have just snatched a sizeable segment of the gaming market in one fell swoop. I mean, the Xbox One X APU is practically halfway there architecturally. Plus, the massive Vega 64 die has the HRM along with it on the same package as well. To top it off, the drool factor is there among many PC gamers who have been just begging for an Xbox One X-class APU. I hope AMD figured out how to fit this into the AM4 package and this gamer-oriented APU turns out to be a reality.

I would love for something like this to be released but I am not sure they can fit all of that on an AM4 die. Maybe x399 though? If it’s x399 I hope we would get itx boards to go with it.

Unfortunetely, I don't think every AM4 board would have the power modules to drive such chip, so it might be catastrophic to release it comercially. Unless they segregate the compatible cpus and mobos. ;c

I hope I'm wrong, though.

Let’s think about the power requirements. If it were within a 95-100W power envelope (in gaming, 30-35W for the CPU plus 60-65W for the GPU; 65W for the CPU otherwise), it would easily work within the power requirements. The Ryzen 7 2700X at 105W TDP works fine in all previously released AM4 motherboards so I see no problems here, either.

I was personally hoping for an 8-core-CPU version of this Vega 28 package in TR4 socket, but if this fits into an AM4, it's a huge win for SFF!

I think they should be able to fit it within 105W TDP by tuning the clock/voltage curves accordingly, and possibly cherry-picking the dies. The second part depends on what market they intend to hit with this...

So a single ryzen 8-core zeppelin die is 192mm², a single stack of hbm2 is 91.99mm², and assuming that the die size of the 28 cu vega chip is roughly half of the vega64's 484mm² at 242mm², it should all fit under an AM4 IHS. With next to no room to spare. We should all find out if it's going to be available for current motherboards sometime tonite. I sure hope it is.
