Wow, so they actually did it. Took a while but it's here. A few years back people were entertaining the thought of vendors making cards like this, just reducing it to GPGPU tasks and without video outputs though based off consumer cards and not workstation ones.

Also, there is a currency that allows protein folding while mining, called CureCoin.
