I have been asked to make a smaller version of my BRICKMOD-500 (aka BRICKMOD1) so here we go... smaller volume than FLEX

With this kit you can build your own small external brick with up to 230W output power.

planned specs (still WIP):

  • black anodized aluminum case for improved passive cooling
  • dimensions 76x46x125mm (WxHxL)
  • compatible AC-DC PSUs: MEANWELL RPS-200C, EPP-200
  • one 40x10 mm internal cooling fan
  • temperature controller included (fan stays off under normal load)
  • C6 AC connector for ease of use / safety
  • DC cable can be customized
Compatible DC-DC ATX Power Supplies:
  • G-Unique / GxR-ONE PLUGIN / PICOPSU (use MW AC-DC 12V)
  • HDPLEX DC-DC (use MW AC-DC 24V)
  • ... etc ...
Concept and size comparison:

Everything is fine, no worries. I'll let you know when your brick is ready.

is there a quantity limit ??

as i told you before, i ordered several PC builds, & plan to have 1 of those builds use a GTX 1650 Super OC.

so i'll need more than one AC brick.

guess I'll still make an alternative version trying to put all connectors at the back for better ventilation... also I think this brick really doesn't need to be hidden under the table... :p

any ideas for some tiny AC connector I could use?

That is a good looking brick.

Aviation connectors would look nice and can be screwed in to make a really solid connection.

Thanks.

I think these AMASS connectors are amazing in terms of performance / size but they only have a few mountable ones. Probably you are right and I should look for aviation connectors...

Nice, you beat me to it. Been planning to design an external enclosure for the EPP-200 similar to this.

Have you done any thermal testing under loads?

Yeah, I've seen people talking doing it but haven't seen any final product yet. Since I need some brick like that for one of my future cases I just went ahead.

It will come with a fan controller. You should be fine with 130W passive cooling. Once the PSU reaches 45C the silent 4020 fan kicks in, keeping it cool under high loads.

another prototype and the version I will probably go for the final product (except the color: black)...

with the new layout I was able to shrink it even more! new dimensions: 76x46x125mm (WxHxL)

way smaller than a 220W DELL brick and up to 230W output (load tested for one hour)

I really like this and am considering it to pair with it’s bigger brother.

Would it be possible to make both the power in and power out cables modular?

For a travel setups, modular cables make packing into something like a Pelican case much easier.

Thanks. Appreciate your feedback.

I made two slightly different designs as you can see above, I can put up a vote to see which one would be more appealing:

A) bigger size, fully modular, AC in at the back, DC out at the front

B) smaller size, modular DC out at the back, 10cm pigtail AC in at the back

Let the community decide. I'm open for both.

Option A is better for hiding it away.

Option B could be put on your desk like this:
