Just getting the last couple parts of my trial solution in and will post in the next few days once everything arrives. Will take a 24" monitor with thin bezels on three sides (Dell, LG and a number of others make compatible monitors).
Maybe you can put a few straps around a thin bezel monitor to fit USA carry on standards -- but actually having a bag which you can carry on a plane most places in the world, that won't happen. Physically can't.

What would qualify as most places in the world? 22" x 14" x 9" or smaller than that? This seems to be the dimensions on most airlines I've looked into. The odd one will say 21.5" but I in my experience travelling with my Nanuk 935, they're going to get shitty over half an inch. Furthermore my solution is soft enough that can squish things that little bit to fit inside 21.5".

55 x 40? x 20 is standardish with the second varying somewhat and yes, that's 21.5 in one direction and yes the largest 16:9 rectangle fitting in there has a diagonal of 24.6". But still, your problem is not only a gigantic sheet of glass but also thinness so your carry on can contain other stuff and a stand. The problem is manyfold: not only you need a great bag (I have a modified Red Oxx Sky Train where the enitre back is a flat monitor pocket, it doesn't get better than that) but you also need a great monitor potentially with a 3rd party power brick and stand.

Might as well just post this now. Looking at this case as a baseline:

https://www.magma-bags.de/ctrl-case-ddj-srrr.html

At 590mm it is obviously a little long, but about 10mm of that is zipper pucker and it can be easily be shrunk down to 560mm external length while still having adequate space for a thin bezel 24" monitor I have two monitors I've already tested and they each measure 540mm x 320mm. The idea I am playing with is to look into a wider version of this bag that would retain the screen in the "lid" of the case (2-3" depth) and having the other ~6" for computer hardware with either strapping or cube foam options. The way I figure it you could actually do two monitors and an S4M based system if you wanted to. Any feedback?

So by the time this is safe for caging at an airport the internals are shrunk by 4 cm and you only have 52cm not 54cm. But fine, let's say you fudge that. (The way your bag will look makes it 100% it'll get caged.)

The weight of the bag / stuff you squeezed in there will bite you one or two ways: you can't make this into a backpack -- zero padding and a flat rigid sheet doesn't make a comfortable backpack. But even if you are OK with hauling a heavy bag in your hand, the airline will not be happy to let it on board.

And you still have the power and stand issues.

Do note I linked a Magma backpack, it's not like I am unaware of them.

So I just stumbled on that video to turn a laptop screen into a monitor. All the videos seem to be old. Has anyone managed to find a controller board that will run 144hz or even 120hz. I'm seeing replacement screens super cheap on eBay but can't seem to find any boards. My point is they seem like it would way cheaper this way than going a portable monitor.

Edit.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/4K-HDMI-DP...rentrq:3d8df72f1680a99b5d691708fff94cec|iid:1
Found this 4K HDMI DP LCD Controller Board 15.6" NV156QUM-N44 2K 144Hz HDR LCD Screen
Says it supports 1080p @ 144hz and 4K @ 60hz
Gonna give this one a go when I get paid.

Has anyone used the sibolan s19a? It looks to be perfect for what I'm planning. 13.3" 4k monitor. But it says the response time is 25ms. I don't know if that's pixel response time or total. Because if it's pixel that's awful but total would be pretty good.

Wex Photo Video (UK based) has listed the ASUS ProArt PQ22UC on their website for £4,699.00 ($6138.73 (USD)/€5411.89 (EUR)).

You could buy 3 and half Wacom Cintiq Pro 16's for that price.

Yeah I posted https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tra...-our-hopes-perfect-travel-monitor-dashed.html I forgot to post here. But in that thread I dug out the manual https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/LCD Monitors/PQ22U/PQ22U_English_1127.pdf and it has a list of inputs: 2 USB C and a micro HDMI. This price is very sad news. Looking at the price history of the Asus PT201Q which is sort of the precursor https://camelcamelcamel.com/ASUS-PT201Q-19-5-Inch-Digitizer-Monitor/product/B00P2PL4NU then there is some hope but you'd need to be super vigilant for deals the price was bouncing all over the place.

This.... Is ridiculous. I know it is OLED, I know it is high color gamut. I know it is 4K But just NO! There is no excuse for a 21.6" panel to be this expensive. Also, the 32-inch model can be found for 3500 dollar (which is also ridiculous). So I doubt this price is correct.

You and I both but that price is enough to make me wait for Black Friday... we will see. If it dips below 1000 EUR / USD, I will be all over it but they might discontinue it before it goes down in price. Remember the Panasonic UT-MB5? 20" 4K tablet, 6000 dollars?

I sometimes feel like there should be a Kickstarter for a MLC sized super light weight USB C monitor... I wouldn't be against funding it if I knew whom to partner with.

Anyone has experience with this monitor?
https://www.aliexpress.com/store/pr...en-High-Refresh-1920/1196030_32849075873.html
Really tempted to buy this because 17", IPS, and 120Hz. Just wondering if someone has experience about this monitor or about the seller.

No experience, but it looks really good for the price. Only question is if it can be powered by usb.

Yeah looks like it needs a 3A adapter. Not sure any USB ports output that kind of current? Would be great if it can be powered by integrated USB-C ports on motherboards. Would love to see a review.
