I would really love to see the site do a definitive workup on what the real world implications of T chip vs. under lock vs. undervolt are across a series of real world benchmarks. I'd be willing to loan my 4690T if it would help.
CPU Low TDP CPUs and Gaming?

I've actually been heavily thinking about grabbing the i7-7700T for my new build. Currently using an old i7-2600K @ Stock, and since I've long given up overclocking I see little benefit to buying a K series chip. Though the 4 cores + hyper threading are extremely useful for a lot of what I do. I may not see a huge performance boost, if any at all, but the 35w TDP is so tempting seeing as I'm looking to get an NFC S4 Mini in the next batch. Just about any low profile cooler like the L9i or C7 will have absolutely no issues with them being rated for 65w+. Would make for a pretty good system paired with a GTX1060 or GTX1070.

I'm currently running a system with a i3 4130T and a GTX 1050 (non Ti) and it does fine with most of the gaming I do. For power I use a 160W HD-Plex DC board with a Dell Alienware 150W power brick. So the limit is with the power brick, and looks like it doesn't come close to its max wattage.
As others have said, four threads is enough overhead for gaming. The downside to my i3 is that it can't turbo boost for 1 or 2 threads. Kaby Lake Pentiums would though.
Also, you might actually notice a performance drop more in older games that don't take advantage of multithreading, like Source games such as Portal or TF2.

According to SilentPCReview, there is not that much power consumption difference between an i7 6700 and i7 6700K.

Well, this is Haswell era .... but i7-4765T vs i5-4670K is relevant I think

Normal and K series don't have a huge difference anyway. K series chips normally just have a better boost performance. If you don't hit that boost, their power consumption won't be all that different.
The T series idle, should be lower still, and maxing out at 35w will definitely put a dent in overall consumption.
