For those who are wondering whether a 280 AIO / radiator might fit side-mounted: Yes, it does. Tested with the be quiet! Silent Loop 2 280 (314 x 140 x 27 mm, 1x 140 x 25 SW 3 + 1x 120 x 25 mm SW 4 HS with Noctua adapter).

Using an AIO, there is just this issue, that the in / outlet ports of the tubes clash with the PSU position, so you may have to get creative.

With a custom loop, you should have much less issues (if any; 90° fittings should take care of that problem easily).

Edit: Got creative. Tubes above the PSU seem to be the only option. Also, the Gigabyte Radeon RX 6800 Gaming OC fits completely on top, despite the fact that its between 58 and 61 mm thick. Did also a test fit with a GTX 1660, in theory, normal-sized GPUs till approx 130ish mm width should fit, too, but YMMV.

Edit #2: Now with pictures.

Will a DTX case fit? I need multiple cards, looking at Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Impact with Ryzen 7 5700G

Not concerned with going higher res, will eventually get maybe a 4080 GPU

Not in a sandwich style case, height of the spine is going determine motherboard size. Also the Cross hair only has 1 PCI slot.

My incomplete parts list.. forgot to put in the Samsung 980 Pro 2TB for the photo, and no GPU yet 😥

AMD 7900X in for the win, my god this thing is fast, and responsive! Hits 5.7Ghz SC, and 5.235Ghz AC. 👀

There does still seam to be an issue with the Asus NVME heatsink putting too much pressure, and bending the NVME drive. I've left the two attaching screws backed off a bit as highlighted above.

And finally, the main reason for making this post. Photos for those wondering about the Asus B650E-I, and EK 240 AIO compatibility. No issues with the AIO block 👏 Asus did mention working on the, "clear out zone" for this board in an introduction video. Glad they fixed it!
I am sure the thermal pad that came with the board is too thick (heatsink side).

I have just bought this board and got some new thermal pads on the way (0.5 mm ones). After removing the original pad, there is about a 0.5 mm gap between my drive and the heatsink.

Howdy folks. So glad that the old C4 prototype ended up getting released as the A4 H2O. Love this case. Bravo.

My Corsair H100i served me well the last five years, but the pump finally failed. I am looking to buy a new 240mm AIO. I know that there is a list of compatible AIO's earlier in this thread, and that this is a very common area of discussion in this thread.

My question is whether there is much performance difference between these products. I was planning on reusing my old pair of NF A12x25 fans. I have had no issue cooling my 9900k with my old AIO, but I figured I might add will get a bit more info on the state of the market.

Thanks for any advice.

There are quite a few differences, starting from pump position (in CPU block vs on tube vs in / on radiator), overall design (Asetek vs. other white-label manufacturers vs. in-house designs), flexibility of the tubes, tube length, inlet / outlet port positions, refill port positions (that may or may not clash with other components, see eg. my S396 mod build), and yeah, fans, too. Yes, there are better fans than the classic Noctuas, even noise-wise (and depending on your individual hearing, you might prefer the sound of a particular high-performance fan over Noctua).

I'd suggest watching a few videos on YouTube about this topic, eg. the following one by Hardware Canucks (its why I helped myself to the Thermalright Frozen Edge, which is now gonna save my sorry ass :))

Edit: Obviously, Arctic LF II / III is EXCLUDED, as it WONT fit, except if you added a top extension; 38 mm + 25 mm = 63 mm, but max size for anything inside the top compartment is, AT best, 59 mm. Official support is 55 mm height at max.

" The radiator + fan space is 133x280x55 "

Also, a bit more infodumping: Thats really the max space. The case is actually just 135ish mm wide, and the side panels add the rest of the 4 - 5ish mm. I've researched, measured and calipered a lot since end of May this year :)

I'm looking to replace the components inside my A4-H2O and I'm having trouble finding a good 240 AIO. It currently has an EK Basic, but I intend to move all innards into a new case, so I can't reuse it. Location is Sweden/Europe.

If possible I'd like it to be black so it doesn't visually stand out through the perforated side. Given several choices, I'd rather pay a premium to get something that's a bit more quiet. RGB is entirely optional as I will turn it off/not connect it. I also run Linux, so I will not be able to use software suites like iCUE. If something can be programmed once in Windows and it then remembers the settings, I may be able to set it up using a virtual machine.

I watched the ultimate round-up video and I scrolled back some here, but I really don't know much about the current state of the cooling market. I googled as best as I could, though.

  • Phanteks T30: Can simply not find. There's a "Phanteks Glacier One D30", but it's hard to find in a 240 size, and where available they're invariably white when everything else in the case is black
  • Arctic Lizuid Freezer II/III: Too large to fit (according to hrh_ginsterbusch above)
  • Thermalright Frozen Edge: Hard to find, though there's a bunch of other Frozen line-ups like Notte and Prism?
  • EKWB Nucleus: From what I can see the pump is 61.6 mm and too large
  • Lian-Li Galahad II: Pump 69 mm
  • ROG Ryujin: Pump 81 mm
  • DeepCool LT250: Pump 68 mm? Regardless, cannot find from retailers
  • be quiet! Pure Loop II: Actually available locally!
  • NZXT Kraken: 55.67 mm, pointless LCD screen in a closed case
  • Corsair H100i: 56 mm? Poor performance in review, software features I probably cannot use

What other options are available to me?

The CPU block is 68 mm tall, 55 mm is max. Also, the radiator is 38 mm, which doesnt leave space for fans (55 mm is also the maximum height for radiator space).

Available on Amazon, at least here in Europe.

Take a look at the SFF PC Master List, there is quite the amount of AIOs left :)

You can filter it for anything below and equal 55 mm CPU block height, but also just sorting by CPU block height should do.
