@dondan, I am new to the SFF game and have been doing lots of research into cases as of late. It didn’t take me very long to discover you! Seeing all of your comments here really shows your dedication towards your work and us customers. I’m pretty much sold on purchasing this case or another case designed by you for my next build. Thanks for all you do!

Hey Dan sorry to bring this up again, but I was curious if it isn’t too late to consider changing the case to accomodate quad slot gpus..? The 4090 is announced next week and so far all of the aib models leaked appear to use a 4 slot design with only the Founders’ model being a 3 slot.

If you want 4 slot GPU then go for A3?

I don’t prefer the design as much. Been following the C4 since 2017. But I need upgradability and even if I don’t go with a 4 slot this gen I may be forced to next gen. I don’t prefer to upgrade gpu, psu, AND case with each generation..

EK and alphacool have listed 4090 water blocks. Curious if the 4090/EK block could fit with a slim 280 rad/fan stackup (36 mm) on the GPU side in traditional layout. Ideally with enough gap to allow decent airflow in between.

Here is a first research for the new RTX 40x0 Series. The green labeled cards will fit. What do you think should we really increase the C4-SFX again to support this madness?

Here is a small example.

1) I would never increase the width of the case. With 166mm max GPU height is 148mm.
2) Best case for Slot size would be 3.75 slot.
3) Best case for length would be 360mm but nearly all cards that are over 340mm in length are more than 145mm in height. So 340mm would be sweetspot.

It would require making the case 20mm longer and 10mm increased in height. New dimension:
354x251x166 = 14.8l

With these changes all MSI, INNO3D, COLORFUL cards will fit. Some Gigabyte will fit. But still all ZOTACS and all big ASUS will not fit. So the only real benifit is fitting the MSI cards. What do you think?

Leave as is. The case is perfect. GPU size is insane, as is power use.

Personally I think the case fitting a few 4090s is enough. Not many people are actually going to put one in, as much as we love to talk about limits. The only card I'd be interested in adding compatibility for would be the MSI 4090 Suprim Liquid, and I'm still not sure how it would work. Is it a 3.75 slot card with an additional 240 rad, or is the rad integrated into the 3.75 slots in some kind of jazzy AIO design. If the rad could go up the top and I could use the side slot for the CPU rad (or a big noctua tower) then I'd be stoked.

That being said, I'd be interested to see the thermals of a well laid out fan setup with a C14S and a 4090FE coupled with indirect fan cooling up top. If I could stay air in such a small space without living next to a jet engine, I'd be stoked.

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

After seeing all this GPU monstrosity sizes, I´ve just realised most SFF cases and specially sandwich layout cases are out of the game for the next gen. Not just by GPU Slot or Length limitation, but heat dissipation as well. Also 3+ slots cards render ITX boards pointless, making M-ATX a more sensible choice.

From my utterly ignorant case production knowledge, here are my 2 cents:

1) Keep the C4 as it is and let people cherry pick GPUs that fit the case (Not everyone will buy Top Tier cards)
2) Merging the C4 and A3 into one compact M-ATX case that will fit 99% of all new GPUs and call it a day.

Thank you @dondan for all your updates :)

I don't think the size increase makes any sense. NVidia is going in the wrong direction anyways, why follow them? The energy crisis is real here in EU, power draw matters. I personally wouldn't go for these high-end models even if the price or size were more reasonable.
It doesn't make sense but it seems we're in the position where simply going to a smaller node does not provide the same performance gains as it used to and architectural improvements are extremely expensive in the R&D department. Getting close enough and then shooting the chips with tons of power seems like the industry trend to keep those big generational performance increases. At least for the next few years.
