Hey guys, running into a small problem with my cpu cooler a cooltek 1153. I bought an 8700k and had it delidded and sent my way. My old setup was a 6700k (also delidded) in an ml08 and a lp53/120mm Noctua had it idle in the upper 20’s to low 30s with mid to upper 60’s while gaming.

I’ve swapped it to the 8700k and my idle is 37-43 while load is hitting 80’s. Tried resetting with same results and wondering if anyone is doing what I’m trying to do. Or is there a better cooler for this size category? Btw there is no over clock, just factory speeds.

The 8700K are known to run hotter, however the cpu cooler you use (which to be honest I am not familiar with) does not look to me to be up for such a task for your cpu.

What are the constraints in your case regarding the cpu cooler ? If it was me (and ruling out other possibilities like not well seated cpu/cooler etc), I'd be looking to upgrade the cooler depending what the case allows.

I’m currently in a ml08 but preparing for a custom mod sfx with a 48mm limit on cpu height. And I misspelled the cooler is an lp53 with a fan changed to a 120mm Noctua. It’s handled the 6700k/7700k for many but I haven’t seen an 8700k with it yet. Gonna try to undervolt it later today and see if it helps.

No way around it mate. It's a rushed chip from the end of its generation to counter Zen, by slapping together an i7 and an i3. It's hot and they outright lie about its tdp.

Either you go liquid cooling or use bigger air cooler.

Or just undervolt/underclock it if you insists on lower profile coolers.

Yeah. I just figured it was only 4 tdp more than my 6700k that it would be ok sinc it runs mid upper 60s while gaming.

Forgot to mention that deliding and reliding using a better aftermarket thermal compound will also greatly reduce your temps.
That’s if you’re comfortable doing it, but it definitely pays.

Already delidded. That really helped the 6700k as the lp53 has its hand full with it at first. I’ve went ahead and swapped coolers for now.

7700K = 4 cores @ 91W TDP, so unless Intel did magic, 6 cores should run ~50% higher (or until the cooler can't keep up with the thermal rise), especially with multi-core turbo/MCE. So you should be looking at ~130W coolers.

Hey guys, running into a small problem with my cpu cooler

sergiiua has just listed a case, that's around the size of a Dr Zaber Sentry, but is 76mm height.

with 76mm of space, you should be able to easily fit a cooler, that will get your temps down.

the name of it is " SLIM M2 7.5L rev. 6.1 " .
