Would definitely love to see more high core count SFF systems, especially one of my own lol. Running freeCAD, 20 Chrome tabs, OBS, VS Code, Paint.NET, and another picture viewer makes a cumbersome experience i find.

So certainly multithreaded improvements would be welcome on the software side too.

Pretty interesting. The link about the CES CineBench demo: https://www.amd.com/en/press-releas...eo-dr-lisa-su-reveals-coming-high-performance

Testing performed AMD CES 2019 Keynote. In Cinebench R15 nT, the 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Desktop engineering sample processor achieved a score of 2057, better than the Intel Core i9-9900K score of 2040. During testing, system wall power was measured at 134W for the AMD system and 191W for the Intel system; for a difference of (191-134)/191=.298 or 30% lower power consumption.

System configurations: AMD engineering sample silicon, Noctua NH-D15S thermal solution, AMD reference motherboard, 16GB (2x8) DDR4-2666 MHz memory, 512GB Samsung 850 PRO SSD, AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 GPU, graphics driver 18.30.19.01 (Adrenalin 18.9.3), Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (1809); Intel i909900K, Noctua NH-D15S thermal solution, Gigabyte Z390 Aorus, 16GB (2x8) DDR4-2666 MHz memory, 512GB Samsung 850 PRO SSD, AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 GPU, graphics driver 18.30.19.01 (Adrenalin 18.9.3), Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (1809).

So AMD made a true apples-to-apples comparison with 8-core 16-thread CPUs, with top air-coolers and FEDEC standard clocked memory, the latter would give Intel the advantage in the scenario.

The conclusion from AdoredTV is that this is a low mid-range chip with less than half of the power the high-end chip will be able to show, as the 16-core part would possibly have even higher clocks. For many this might seem unthinkable for AMD to best Intel, but they did demonstrate a CPU with only half of the CPU cores that are being planned for Ryzen 3000-series. They also demonstrated a CPU that either has a significant jump in IPC and/or clock speed as the 8c16t AMD engineering chip performed the same as Intel's 8c16t i9-9900K.

The rumors are the AMD part was running at 4.5 or 4.6GHz, so even a little lower than Intel's 9900K, so this would mean superior IPC and with the power consumption being about 50% lower as that same Intel CPU. Which means even higher clocked chips could still be in the cards and a 5.0 GHz part wouldn't be impossible.

tl;dr
AMD seems to have an advantage in IPC, in power consumption and in core count in the middle of 2019.

I found that interesting too, and it left me wondering:

Has the IMC moved onto the IO die?
How does this effect the Infinity Fabric scaling with ram speed?
Is there any more latency going to be introduced when they add another chiplet to the package?

These are just "some" of the questions I found myself pondering after watching the vid ;)

They have the XFX Radeon VII pre listed on Newegg for $599. That would be an incredible price but I can't imagine they will actually go that cheap, especially if the low supply rumors are true.

I see they also now have the Sapphire, but it is listed at $699.

All the ‘AMD’ AIBs are listed now. I clicked on my Newegg notification email at 8:05am central and the Sapphire & XFX version were in stock @ $699. I spoke with a colleague for a few mins about some work related items and when I hit F5, both were OOS @ 8:09am.

I’d like to buy one, I’m still debating with myself if it’s worth $300 over V64 though.

Do you really want to listen to this?
