To add to this I think I just had a brand new Gigabyte Z270 board eat shit on me fresh out of the box. Chalk one up for ASUS!
Edit: an hour an a half of testing and I definitely received a dud. On topic, I would also consider AsRock as an alternative. I've owned more of their boards than any of late and they have been rock solid for me.

Even if it has RGB you can turn it off - that's the case with the ASUS board above from personal experience can't speak for the Gigabyte board.
