Has anyone here modded the Coolermaster V850 ATX 3.0 gold with an aftermarket fan like a Noctua?

Thing gets pretty darn loud when spun way up. Am wondering if a mod could be done with another fan that might help quiet that down at load.

Generally, Noctua fans aren't as effective as the OEM fans at cooling PSUs, how much power are you pulling? What's your spec?

That's because a different type or performance category fan is used to replace it. PSUs need pressure optimized fans and a similar pressure and air flow specification to perform similarly. If you replace it with a "silent" fan, that's often airflow optimized with much lower pressure and maybe similar airflow, it'll not fulfill the requirements that it was tested and rated for. It might overheat, it might reduce life span, it all depends how close to tolerance the PSU was built.

About 10 years ago there was a popular fan swap on the Silverstone SFX 450W PSU, replacing it with a NoiseBlocker slim 92mm fan. It was indeed quieter, but the PSU was also tripping it's over temperature protection circuit for some people because it wasn't able to cool properly.
