Hello everyone,

I wanted to start a discussion about the viability of 3 Slot GPUs in SFF cases. The common pitfalls I see are:
a) High power consumption. E.g. the Gigabyte Aorus GTX1080ti has 250W listed.
b) Cooling. Most of these cards have an open fan design, which might not work that well.
c) Space, obviously.

What are your experiences with it? Is it worth it to put one in a SFF case or design a case around those cards?

I don't know about the viability of 3 slot cards..
But having an extra slot in the case means that you can put other things in there as an addition to the dual slot gpu. Extra usb-ports as an example.

The AC Mono Plus in my rig takes up three slots but I don't see a reason why one wouldn't want a triple slot solution if it fits. Open design with a GTX 1070-1080 should be no problem with one 120mm exhaust fan and direct access to ambient air for the GPU.

Personally I would like to see more either triple slot or higher gpu heatsinks. The reason is these current longer designs require a lot of room in one direction and they have to rely on tiny whiny fans to be effective.
