SilverStone releases the NT09-115X low-profile CPU cooler

Today SilverStone has announced the NT09-115X, a 45mm tall CPU heatsink for Intel LGA 1156/1155/1150/1151 processors with a TDP of 65W or less. The heatsink itself is a fairly basic extruded aluminum affair like the stock heatsinks but instead with sturdy-looking spring-loaded screws to attach the heatsink to the motherboard instead of the sometimes frustrating plastic push-pins that Intel typically uses. The mounting screws thread into an included backplate that is intended to reduce motherboard warping. The fan is a custom 92mm PWM fan but the mounting holes for it appear to use the same spacing as a 80mm fan. While I would have …

SilverStone announces the PP08 SFX to ATX adapter bracket

Today SilverStone is announcing the PP08 SFX to ATX power supply adapter bracket. This bracket allows a SFX PSU to be mounted to the case where an ATX PSU would go, but unlike most adapters on the market, this new one offsets the SFX unit to the far edge of the adapter plate, instead of centering it in the middle. The offset allows the space saved by going with a SFX unit in a case designed for ATX units to be maximized. This will especially come in handy for cases where the PSU is mounted over the motherboard, limiting the …

Intel’s 5×5 is Making a Comeback

A while back, Intel previewed it’s 5×5 form factor, designed to be smaller than M-ITX. New boards and cases have been released for the form factor, with a new name – Mini-STX. At CES, ASRock discussed its upcoming H110M-STX Mini PC that will use the form factor. The chassis ASRock specified for this new mini-PC measured 155 x 155 x 80 mm (L x W x H), 1.9 litres. Although SFF PCs of this size are relatively common (Intel NUC, Gigabyte Brix, etc), they are almost entirely built with soldered CPUs and GPUs and can’t be upgraded beyond changing the memory …

New SilverStone SFX power supplies with 92mm fan?

I was checking SilverStone’s Facebook page to see if there was any updates on the 700W SFX-L unit and spotted this interesting photo of their PSU lineup. The above picture is a cropped and sharpened view of the linked image. As far as I know, the two mystery SFX PSUs in the front are previously unannounced units. At Computex last year they had shown off a non-modular SFX unit that still hasn’t been released but these two new units are fully modular. More interesting though is the fan, which based on my measurements of the casing, is a 92mm fan. The …

SilverStone releases the TD02-Slim and TD03-Slim

SilverStone is launching two SFF-oriented water cooling solutions, the TD02-Slim (240mm) and the TD03-Slim (120mm). By combining slim 22mm thick radiators with 120mm x 15mm fans, they are able to deliver a liquid cooling system that’s only 37mm thick for rad+fan. Presumably with the decreased radiator surface area and slim fans the performance won’t be quite as good as normal CLC’s, but the slim profile could make it feasible to fit water cooling in cases that weren’t suited to it before. I’m thinking this is aimed at slim cases like the ML07. The block appears to be identical to the TD02-Lite and …

SilverStone announces the Milo ML06-E

SilverStone has just announced an updated version of the Milo ML06 HTPC chassis. The main change is moving the SFX PSU to the other side of the Mini-ITX motherboard to allow for a dual-slot low-profile expansion card. There are a few versions of the GTX 750Ti available in that form factor but for now that’s about the most GPU power you can get in a low-profile card. But as AMD has shown with the Fury X, moving to HBM allows for much more compact PCB sizes so hopefully in the future we’ll see a proliferation of powerful low-profile video cards to get …
