SilverStone’s VT01 – TJ07-esque uSFF!

Recently, I looked at SilverStone’s VT02 – a subtle Mini-STX case along the lines of the ASRock DeskMini styling. Aftermarket cases for the M-STX form factor aren’t exactly common, but SilverStone does have two compatible models in the range – today’s review is of the VT01, the cheaper sibling to the VT02. Inspired by the SilverStone TJ07 – an iconic (albeit huge) case of years gone, the VT01 is an ultra small case for the SFF generation. Built entirely from SECC steel, the VT01 isn’t exactly a pure descendant of the TJ07, but it does offer great value and a …

SFF Network Swag Store is Live!

You asked, and we delivered… SFF Forum swag is now available, permanently! When we ran our previous ‘swag’ campaign, there were many who missed out, or wanted to get even more. In light of this, we’ve (rather delayed, mind you), re-launched the swag store! We will have reasonable, no-nonsense pricing for all of the items, and we’ve used Teespring in order to provide the most reasonable international shipping rates that we can find. There’s been a lot of thought expended on our part in order to provide the sorts of items and price points that will be of interest and …

An In Depth Review of the ZOTAC 1080 Mini

We would like to thank ZOTAC for providing us with a review sample of their ZOTAC 1080 Mini. Without their generosity, this graphics card review would not be possible. Originally announced back in December of 2016, showcased at CES, and then released in January, the ZOTAC 1080 Mini is the veritable King of graphics cards among SFF enthusiasts. At present, there doesn’t exist a single more powerful GPU capable of fitting into the some of the smallest chassis around. Below are a few resources that ZOTAC was kind enough to provide for use in creating this review: ZOTAC 1080 Mini Landing Page ZOTAC 1080 Mini Product Page ZOTAC …

Opinion – M-DTX, The Ultimate SFF Motherboard

Quite a few years ago, AMD launched the DTX (and by extension, the M-DTX) standard, aiming to reduce costs in motherboard manufacturing by more efficiently optimising the use of a standard sheet of PCB material. In doing so, they inadvertently created what I consider the ideal SFF board form factor – M-DTX. This form factor offers the best of the M-ATX and M-ITX formats, in a balanced design. M-DTX offers us the best of the expandable SFF world – not too big, but not too small. Leaving M-ATX in the dust, M-DTX would offer us the world in a little …

SilverStone discloses pricing and availability for their 800W SFX-L power supply

Edit: Our review of the SilverStone SX800-LTI here. SilverStone’s hotly anticipated 800W SFX-L power supply is nearly here! Originally announced at Computex back in May, we have received word direct from SilverStone that the SX800-LTI should be available by the end of the year, with an MSRP of $179.99 (or 180€) excluding VAT. You may find yourself wondering why anyone would need 800 watts of power in an SFX-L size, but there are actually a wide range of builds that stand to benefit from this PSU: from midrange rigs that can rely on the semi-passive functionality for almost continuous low-to-no fan operation, through to (naturally) dual-GPU builds …

Enermax to launch Revolution SFX series of power supplies.

On December 9th, Enermax will launch their new Revolution SFX series of power supplies. Available in 550W and 650W variants, these 80-Plus Gold, fully modular power supplies are yet another welcome addition to the SFF market. With semi-fanless operation up to 30% utilization, the offset 80mm fan will (hopefully) help to provide quiet operation depending on the system load. This unit appears to be based on the same Enhance Electronics platform as the SilverStone SX600-G, Thermaltake STP-0600F-G, and Lian-Li PE-550 though so it will remain to be seen if Enermax has improved on the fan controller deficiencies inherent to the platform. Edit1: or maybe not. …

XFX has announced two single-slot AMD RX 460 graphics cards.

Following just after the announcement of the HIS RX 460 Slim-iCooler OC on the 24th, VideoCardz has shared that XFX has two new single-slot AMD RX 460 graphics cards coming to the Small Form Factor market. Both Polaris 11 based cards will use AMD’s reference clock speeds and will operate on a maximum of 75 watts, requiring no additional power. XFX will offer a 2GB and a 4GB variant, and based off the screenshots below, both cards appear to be using the same robust aluminum heatsink as the one used on the HIS RX 460. We weren’t able to find the exact dimensions of the card but TechPowerUP! states that the …

MSI has released the GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP

SFF Forum member NateDawg72 has shared exciting news of MSI’s new low-profile GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP on the forums. Without official news or any social media announcements, this card appears to have slipped completely under the radar. MSI’s new GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP card replaces MSI’s aging GTX 750 Ti 2GB LP that was released in November of 2014. This card, like the previous one, is a dual-slot, dual-fan GPU solution with a height of just 69mm. It requires no additional 6/8-pin power (max 75 watts) making it the perfect companion for that slim case with low-profile slots that you have been eyeing. Here are the specifications as …

Logic Supply MC600 Review

On the one hand, the mini-ITX market has been expanding at a fairly rapid rate as of late. Quite a few major manufacturers are now developing new mITX cases, which is great news, in and of itself – but a lot of these cases seem to be ignoring the “small” in small form factor. For example, the Fractal Design Node 202 and Silverstone RVZ02 do a good job of cutting some lbs. compared to cases like the Bitfenix Prodigy, and the recently launched Fractal Design Define Nano S. However for some of us, they are still not small enough. In the other hand, we have Logic …
