History of SFF gaming, 30 years of Falcon Northwest, and a Q&A with Falcon Northwest CEO Kelt Reeves.

This has been an article 6 months in the making. It was a lot of fun to research and cover the history of a hobby that’s so near and dear to all of us, but that joy paled in comparison to building inside an actual Falcon Northwest FragBox 2 chassis that I get to call my own. To that end, we’re happy to celebrate Falcon Northwest’s 30th anniversary this month and we’re thankful that we got to host a Q&A from their founder and CEO, Kelt Reeves. The History of SFF While some computer historians may argue, Small Form Factor …

Shenzen Lockdown Could Delay our SFF Gratification

Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-03-13/china-places-all-shenzhen-residents-under-lockdown-afp   Seems Shenzhen, the home of all things cheap and techy, has unfortunately had an encounter with our little spiky nemesis, and has been placed under lockdown for the coming week, if not longer. Densium.net, a case bender from the forum, tipped me off to this troubling news – especially in regards to their source of manufacturing. Unfortunately, the Densium 4 and 4+ cases from them will be delayed by at least a week in this turn of events, and I’m sure many other products and projects will also be. Hopefully the lockdown is short and sharp and …

Pluto – An Update From the Designer

As many readers may be aware, Artesian Builds, a system integrator based in the United States, has suspended sales, staff and business in general. This normally wouldn’t have a huge impact on our SFF world – system integrators generally use larger cases as a rule. Unfortunately, the fantastic Pluto, a wood, aluminium and steel 13L chassis we featured here, was being sold exclusively on their platform. This partnership had, until now, been beneficial for forum user Shatrod, the designer of the Pluto. From the designer; Hello, everyone. I wanted to wait until all of the paperwork has been finalized however …

Goodisory A01 Review

Review provided by forum moderator ignsvn with editing performed by John Morrison. Want to contribute a review or editorial? Private message John (confusis) on the forum! Many forum members know that I’m never a big fan of external AC-DC brick. I see them as something that adds more wire on my already cluttered, fully-wired PC setup, regardless whether you put the brick on top of the desk, or on the floor. However, recently I have found a need to to build a low power, APU-only HTPC for family entertainment purposes. Think of watching online TV channels, Youtube, play light games, …

System76 – Thelio. A chassis that thinks outside the box.

This is going to be a unique article for us in that this is more of a showcase and not a review. This sample was paid for out of pocket and like all our articles, will remain unbiased to a fault.  As far as I am aware, there are only two ITX computer case manufactures in the USA (R.I.P. Caselabs), one of them is Sliger Designs out of Sparks, Nevada and the other is System76 from Denver, Colorado. And while System76 both designs and manufactures their own chassis, they are not available for sale without the purchase of one entirely …

Fractal Design’s ERA Chassis Review

We would like to thank Fractal Design for providing us with a review sample of their ERA ITX chassis. Without their generosity, this case review would not be possible. Way back at CES 2019, representatives at Fractal were quick to quell our disappointment in their case lineup by asking that we to stay tuned, and to rest assured that the ITX audience had not been forgotten. Immediately, I expected Fractal to simply take the easy route and refresh their wildly popular Node 202 chassis with some brushed aluminum variant but I am very glad that I was wrong. Available in …

SilverStone’s VT01 – TJ07-esque uSFF!

Recently, I looked at SilverStone’s VT02 – a subtle Mini-STX case along the lines of the ASRock DeskMini styling. Aftermarket cases for the M-STX form factor aren’t exactly common, but SilverStone does have two compatible models in the range – today’s review is of the VT01, the cheaper sibling to the VT02. Inspired by the SilverStone TJ07 – an iconic (albeit huge) case of years gone, the VT01 is an ultra small case for the SFF generation. Built entirely from SECC steel, the VT01 isn’t exactly a pure descendant of the TJ07, but it does offer great value and a …
