Lian Li PC-Q38 ITX case, new PCIe extenders, and more

Taiwan is home to Lian Li, the well-known makers of all-aluminum cases, and as expected Lian Li had many of their products on display at Computex this year. PC-Q38 Lian Li’s booth had quite a few full-tower aluminum behemoths, but I was immediately drawn to this new Mini-ITX case they had in the back corner. This is the PC-Q38 Mini-ITX case. At 20.2L it’s not tiny for ITX, but it does fit a 240mm radiator in such as way as to keep the side panel window clear to show off the build. Here we can see where the PSU is …

The Stragglers – Coolermaster, Thermaltake and Lian Li

With only one man on the ground this year at CES, we could only cover so much. At the end of the final day of CES, we could only grab quick overviews of a few of the companies we had missed. Let’s go! [mks_separator style=”blank” height=”2″] Cooler Master Continuing Cooler Master’s closed loop cooling, they were keen to show off their Lite 120 and (Regular) 120/140 range. [mks_separator style=”blank” height=”2″] RGB! Yeah. They do look like TRON-like hovercraft though! [mks_separator style=”blank” height=”2″] Drew at it again with the Mitutoyos. USB 3.1 motherboard connector revealed

Last week MSI and Phanteks announced a partnership to offer front-panel USB 3.1 Type-C ports involving the upcoming MSI Z170A GAMING M7 motherboard and Phanteks Enthoo Elite case. While the motherboard itself is ATX (*yawn*), the connector itself is highly exciting because anyone who’s had to deal with the USB 3.0 header knows how cumbersome it is. The cable is typically stiff and unmanageable in a tight SFF build and if that wasn’t bad enough, the header connector itself is finicky. Sometimes it comes loose from the header when working in the case and causes the front panel USB 3.0 ports to …

Lian Li PE-550 Review

Welcome to another SFX-L power supply review! Today, we’re looking at the Lian Li PE-550, the second SFX-L unit in Lian Li’s SFX-L portfolio after the PE-750 I reviewed earlier this year. It is a 550W unit, Gold-rated, fully-modular, and features a slim 120mm cooling fan. And can I just say how awesome it is that this is the third SFX-L power supply I’ve reviewed in six months! It’s especially amazing considering the state of SFX/SFX-L PSUs even just two years ago. A disclaimer first before we get started: SFF Network does not currently possess the expertise or equipment to fully test …

Lian Li shows off new cases and it’s SFX or bust!

I had spotted a pic or two of new Lian Li cases at Computex but it’s taken until now to get information about them. Tom’s Hardware has the details and they look intriguing. First is the PC-Q22, pictured above. It is a 2-slot Mini-ITX case with room for two 2.5″ drives, a single 3.5″ drive, and a 240mm rad. As mentioned in the title, it only takes SFX/SFX-L power supplies. Tom’s Hardware mentions that the PSU is mounted in the front, which it’d have to be given that the rear of the case is dominated by the motherboard IO cutout, the …

Lian Li PE-750 Review – An Unexpected Entrant

Lian Li is renowned for their aluminum computer cases, but they’ve also offered power supplies at various times, either as standalone units or as PSU’s that were bundled with certain cases. However, it hasn’t been a product category they’ve really pushed in the last several years – so it was about as expected as the Spanish Inquisition for Lian Li to suddenly announce two high-wattage SFX-L power supplies, which is exactly what they did early last month. The two new SFX-L units they first shared with the world in April were the PE-550 and the PE-750, and it’s the latter of which that is the subject of today’s …

Lian Li Stealth Launches the PE-750: A 750W Platinum SFX-L PSU

Who doesn’t love unexpected surprises? Eagle-eyed member of the forum iFreilicht has turned our attention to a new listing on Newegg for Lian Li’s highly-anticipated PE-750, which currently lays claim to the title of the highest wattage SFX-L power supply available, let alone the highest wattage SFF-oriented PSU more broadly. Most know of Lian Li as a manufacturer of popular (if not occasionally curious) aluminum enclosures, so the company’s entry into the power supply market is a notable departure from their traditional offerings. SFF Network actually covered the unexpected announcement of the unit (alongside a 550W Gold-rated SFX-L PSU) in early April, and the development took the industry …

Lian Li announces two SFX-L power supplies

Known for their quality aluminum cases rather than power supplies, today Lian Li announced two SFX-L power supplies, the Gold-rated 550W PE-550 and the Platinum-rated 750W PE-750. There is basically no information on these units available other than what’s listed on Lian Li’s website. They both share grill designs, what appears to be the same slim 120mm fan as the SilverStone SX500-LG, full modularity, and  relatively short flat ribbon cables. Also, to avoid any confusion, despite the tagline in the marketing image these units are SFX-L, not SFX. The listings for both units mention that the fan voltage varies with both temperature …
