Thermaltake announced today the release of their Toughpower SFX Gold Series line of power supplies, with a 450W and a 600W unit. They’re Gold-rated for efficiency, fully-modular with flat cables, semi-fanless (we’ll see), and feature all-Japanese capacitors.
While it’s nice to see more options in the SFF PSU market, these units look to be based on the same Enhance platform as the SilverStone ST45SF-G and SX600-G. While those SilverStone units were best-in-class at the time of their release, that time was also 4 years ago for the 450W and 2 years ago for the 600W. SFF enthusiasts are often picky when it comes to noise so I’m baffled that Thermaltake saw fit to enter the market with units equipped with only 80mm fans when the competition is moving to 92mm for SFX.
Quibbles about potential noise issues aside, I really have to give Thermaltake kudos for giving these new units 7-year warranties. Corsair also does 7-years for their SF450 and SF600 and I’d like to see both SilverStone and Lian Li step up and deliver competitive warranty periods for their SFF units.
No word on price or availability.
Edit: Suggested retail price is $89.99 for the 450W and $119.99 for the 600W.
