Plextor Launches M6V, a Value SSD

Plextor announced the launch of its entry-level M6V series, SATA 6 Gb/s SSDs. The drives feature a Silicon Motion SMI-2246 controller with Toshiba 16 nm Toggle NAND flash memory. The 128 GB variant features 128 MB of DRAM cache, with sequential speeds of up to 535 MB/s reads, with up to 170 MB/s writes. The 256 GB variant, which comes with a larger 256 MB DRAM cache, offers up to 535 MB/s reads, with up to 335 MB/s writes. The 512 GB variant leads the pack, with a 512 MB DRAM cache, up to 535 MB/s reads, and up to 455 MB/s writes. 4K random-access performance for the three are in the range of 83,000 IOPS reads, with up to 80,000 IOPS writes.

The drives are available in the 7 mm-thick 2.5-inch, M.2 (as M6GV series), and mSATA (as M6MV) form-factors; and in capacities of 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB.

Besides the product itself, the M6V SSD that Plextor released is also equipped with the latest PlexTurbo.  [mks_pullquote align=”right” width=”300″ size=”16″ bg_color=”#000000″ txt_color=”#ffffff”](PlexTurbo) uses dynamic cache buffer instead of the average SSD cache, and can automatically identify cold and hot data, releasing the cold data from the system cache and making use of memory cache space more efficiently. The three major features of PlexTurbo include: increases access performance up to 8 times, prolongs SSD usage life, and prevents memory cache data loss.[/mks_pullquote]

Plextor claims a MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of 1.5 million hours. A three-year warranty and global Plextor extensive support and maintenance center services are also provided.

Plextor states that the latest PlexTurbo software is estimated to be available for M6V users to download on the official website starting at the beginning of August 2015.

Plextor V series SSDs are estimated to hit the market at the end of July 2015, and will come in three form factors and capacities shown in the table below.
