Hello everyone,

A little random question here, but has anyone actually used an 2mm thick mouspad over an 3 mm thick one?

I'm currently in the search for one in a specific measurement and have found one, although the 2mm is about $7 cheaper than the 3 mm one. Which is a bit odd and a rather big price difference.

I've used Glorious mousepad for the past years, which is 3 mm, but it's too small and the largest one is too big for my needs.

Although I'm wondering if a 2 mm is better in any way? Anyone in here that has any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Dawelio

For the past 4 years I've used 2 mouse pads, both are Artisan Hayate Otsus. The previous one was XSOFT (4mm) and the latest/current one is MID (3mm). I noticed, or rather distracted more by the hardness XSOFT vs MID than the difference in thickness 4mm vs 3mm.

Is your 2mm pad soft or hard pad? I cannot imagine using a 2mm thick softpad, it would be too thin for me, prefer to rest my wrist on the pad so extra thickness is highly appreciated

1mm isn't much of anything, TBH. The difference in durability is bigger than most other considerations.

That being said...Depends on your ergonomics. Where does your hand lie in relation to the desk and therefore the mouse? The thinner mousepad will make your mouse lower in relation to your hand/arm, and closer to your desk. I have a 5mm smallsie mouse pad from Corsair...if I could do it again, I'd get a 3mm

I like em thicc. Been using Steelseries QCK Mass (6mm thick) for 6 years. Somehow holding well.

I think it's now been lumped together into Steelseries QCK Heavy product group, which has different dimensions. Both M & L are 6 mm while XXL is somehow 4 mm thick.

Haha that sounded like the final test in a chemistry class :p I have no idea where my hand lies in relation to the desk. Could you elaborate on what you mean by that exactly?...

The reason for asking here is that I found an thread on Reddit regarding this subject and some users said that you can absolutely feel the 1 mm difference. And then I read on Glorious own website that 2 mm is a bit harder and hence more control/precision, meanwhile 3 is a bit softer to the touch.

No idea how much of this is true though or not. Especially considering that everyone is different etc, just like sound is highly subjective.

My ideal would be something like the AMP500 (hybrid 2mm), but as a 750~800m wide mat.
(or 900 but easy to shorten cleanly using a box cutter)

Long lasting and that doesn't cost a fortune, or comes in a pack of 3 or 5 instead of a single expensive, often out-of-stock unit.

Closest thing now would be the G.L.I.D.E 38, but the unit price is ridiculous, especially if it doesn't hold as well as the AMP500 over time (which is what ppl say online)

For now I'm using either a generic 3mm soft mat, or quite expandable cheap'n bad generic 1mm pads.
Or even paper, cardboard.
I like neither. >>

*sigh*

Come on manufacturers, you have our 1st world OCDs to tend to, we need everything on our PC desks, from CPU to mousepad, to be perfect.
