Discussion Visted home. Little sister got a seemingly very large laser engraver. Potential for itx case creation?

I've been off at music schools, eventually earning my masters degree in jazz guitar. Moving back to hometown soon in the interim. In the meantime, I my sister got one of these to engrave wood designs and use it for her own creativity/projects. When I saw it, all i could think of was, "WAIT?! Could I possibly experiment/learn how to make make itx cases on this thing?!"

The website mentions cutting. I'm curious what it's capable of cutting through if this is the case. Or maybe there is a different laser attachment that would allow me to cut through things like aluminum or thin steel as opposed to acrylic?

I was just talking with my dad, because it's at his woodshop/workshop (where my brothers have invested in a cnc machine as well, for wood working. I'd also like to find out if I can use that for itx case materials). It's not his field of interest so he isn't sure what it's capable of either (the engraver).

I understand guitars, tube amps and effects pedals but am absolutely green when it comes to this subject. However, I have been building sff PCs for fun the past eight years or so. I'd love to be able to make something custom since I'll have access to this thing.

I know the software it uses is Lightburn. I'm not sure if they purchased a full license or if they are using some sort of trial/free version? I made a quick engraving of a guitar image I pulled down from the internet in about 20 minutes on the thing but had to travel back home so I haven't gotten to learn much about it yet and it's been out of mind. I'll have access to it soon though.

I'll keep reading up on it in the meantime, but if someone knowledgeable on this matter sees this and just knows what's capable off the top of their head, I'd love some insight from folks who are skilled with this type of tool and such.

Most likely, your laser's power won't be sufficient for cutting metal. I have experience spot-welding steel sheets using a 250W laser. I was able to weld sheets up to 0.8 mm thick, but with 1.2 mm sheets, the power was insufficient and the welds failed. Welding only requires melting the metal at a specific point, which generally demands less power than cutting — at least, that's my understanding
