I'm looking to put the R7 3800x on the msi b450i with ac mini-itx mobo which can run ECC in non-ECC mode. I read through the thread and I don't want to play the lottery on the purple 16gb ADATA vlp sticks. I'm more inclined on waiting for the CT16G4XFD8266S to restock. But just saw Optimum Tech's recommendation for Crucial DDR4-2666 16GB/2Gx72 VLP ECC/REG CL19 Server Memory.

Is there any reason why one shouldn't get server memory? Is this also a viable option?
I suppose REG means registered, which will not work with any consumer grade board. Only ECC will be supported. So the mentioned kit is definitely not going to work if that is the case.

Just purchased two of the purple ADATA DIMMs from AliExpress. Will report back when they arrive, although I can't test them until my PC is eventually built.

Guys, what do you think of this? $90

need to upgrade my Adata 2400MHz 8GB

V-Color 16GB (1 x 16GB) Dual Rank Server Memory Ram Module Upgrade DDR4 2666MHz (PC4-21300) VLP ECC DIMM 1.2V CL19 2Rx8 (TE416G26D819V-VKC)

Amazon Link

Edit: Bought these and will compare the results to someones ADATA 2666 kit, i currently have the ADATA 2400 kit installed. will take a month for it to arrive and test it

I just purchased a couple of innodisk sticks from here (in the UK), for a pretty reasonable price (next day delivery too). I haven't gotten around to properly overclocking them yet, but it looks promising.

For the price, those 16gb dimms are about the same as the Kingston's and crucial's. But with Samsung b-die. :)

was a bit of an impulse buy because I got impatient waiting for the crucial ones to get back in stock. it actually worked out about £70 cheaper than the crucial, and the Kingston stuff isn't ecc afaik, and doesn't come in 16 GB sticks that I can find, at least not locally.

I'll make an update when I've had a chance to oc them, but memory overclocking is not something I've done before, so it might be a while before I have good results.

It's not listed as such on amazon, but what I can gather from neweggs listing those are Reg ECC, thus won't work in most desktop boards.

Talked to the, they said it's unREG however that they are ECC, I will find out when they arrive if they are or are not. Might be an error on neweggs listing

I have so far managed to get the innodisk sticks running stable (so far, I need to run a longer test overnight) at 3600 MHz with timings of 18-19-19-43 @ 1.35 V. I may try to improve on this, but for now I don't want to up the voltage any further.

I run my Adata 2400Mhz @ 1.45v i'm pretty sure I can lower it 3000Mhz 16-18-18-36

Well, the AData DIMMs finally showed up... Not VLP. ?

FWIW, it looks like the folks who were getting the VLP DIMMs were ordering the 8GB sticks (some the 2400 others the 2666), whereas it seems you ordered a 16GB stick. I believe this is the key difference. I know this doesn't help, but I hope this message will be of use to future forum browsers.

32gb vlp udimms are available.

the best ones i've found are these.
the part number is MTA18ADF4G72AZ-2G6B2. there are a few sellers if you search google for that part number. the supermicro link is the current cheapest available option.
the part number for the individual ram ICs ends in D9XPF which links to the micron part number MT40A2G8VA-062E. searching "d9xpf" brought up a couple links and an anandtech article from computex last year. the only other available 32gb vlp dimms i can find are on ebay and the ICs are garbage-tier spectek trash. anyone with the early, shitty adata vlp dimms can attest to spectek quality. they're a low-end sub-brand of crucial.

i'm currently trying to get buildzoid to oc a pair of those supermicro sticks.
