I got tired of waiting and just ordered an ASRock DeskMini build kit. I figured the actual chips, and hardware will take months to hit the market. Was I wrong? How long does it take (taking history as a guide) between CPUs being announced and for them to be available to order easily in the marketplace (Newegg/Amazon etc.)? I will probably proceed with this build regardless, but may feel a little foolish if I could get and build a (desktop) AMD 4000 kit in a couple of weeks. I realize COVID 19 may make this year an exception, compared to historical precedence.

Thanks.

Usually pretty fast. I believe Zen 2 chips (including the APUs) were announced in late May at Computex and available on 7/7.

If you need the DeskMini now, then it's a good buy. It will probably only last you a couple of months though.

Unsure what the pandemic will do to the schedule, as there are possibly primary, secondary and tertiary causes for delays.
When AMD officially announces them (so specs + listing price), they're usually out a week later. We see inventory references or SKUs as well as performance data months in advance. Usually there's also a clear message in what month they can be expected in a financial report or another preceding launch.

Looking at the history, the Ryzen 3000 APUs were an entirely different matter from the Ryzen 3000 CPUs in terms of publicity and timing. The APUs last year were announced weeks later on June 10th with availability starting on July 7th. If history predictably repeats itself here with a mid-June announcement for APUs, the Ryzen 4000 APUs will likely be announced next week. Based on what a tech journalist is telling me, we should know in just a few days. My spidey senses wager that it will just so happen to fall on the same day as the B550 release, June 16th.

EDIT: My guess appears to be off. It looks like the latest round of rumors are stating the Ryzen 4000 APU announcement will be less prominent. The rumor mill is also undecided on a definitive release date with it ranging from July 7th, to July 21st, and even July 27th.

Since late last Tuesday, July 21st, the Ryzen 4000 G-series desktop processors have been available for preorder to consumers in the United States at the online retailer CompSource. I have it on good authority from both CompSource as well as their distributor Ingram Micro, both of whom I have spoke with via email and phone for weeks now, that they will be receiving the first wave of stock (numbering in the hundreds of units) by Friday of next week on August 7th. Below are the purchase links, where currently preorder numbers do not exceed incoming stock levels but this situation could quickly change. For reference, I have noted the current preorder and incoming stock levels next to each processor so you can get a feel for where supply and demand currently stand.

Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G (11 preorders, 96 incoming units):

So buyer beware.
Apparently 4650G Pro and 4750G Pro seems to be sell here in HK in retail boxes with Wraith Stealth included, which is consistent with AMD's webpage. The price is fair though, only around US$35-40 more expensive than 3600 and 3700X respectively. But, since I havent seen the retail boxes themselves, probably best to still take it with a grain of salt.
