Discussion Thoughts on the G5 Plus Watercooled version?

Hi guys,

I'm planning a build for this fall (4700x + 3080ti or AMD's top end) and was looking at the usual case candidates like the M1, but then I stumbled upon this :

The Metalfish G5 is nothing new as I've found people talking about it on reddit a few months ago, but there seems to be a variant, this "watercooled version". It adds the space to fit a 240mm radiator, max height of 55mm (with fans I assume) which is pretty good.

It seems to check most of the boxes for a potential good case for high end hardware :

- good ventilation
- room for 2 extra full size fans at the bottom
- compatible with 240mm AIO, with full size fans
- good GPU compatibility (300mm long, 55mm thick)
- As a bonus it's made of machined 3mm thick alu, so transporting it shouldn't be too stressful

In a smaller package than the M1 as it's 11.6L, and only $150. The M1 is 20mm wider so the G5 is definitely worse for air cooling the CPU but if going the AIO route it seems to be a viable alternative.

The one thing that turned me off was the shitty acrylic panels but there is even a full alu version for $15 extra :

So, opinions?

With most small ITX cases having very limited availability I'm seriously considering just getting this one, it might not quite reach the build quality of a LOUQE but it looks very serviceable.

I just noticed this case today as well. I was originally set on the SM580, but this has the sandwich layout and radiator support as well (240 vs 280), but with sterrox noctuas not a big deal. I love the Mac design, just unsure about the quality as well. From videos it seems to be all right. Definitely a unique one!

I have the g5 plus not the water cooling version and here’s what I’ll tell ya. That’s a very high end build your considering and the g5 is a very very cheaply made case. That cage on the side is literally the only thing supporting the psu inside the case. If you were doing a pentium and a 1650 then rad but bro thing ain’t no sliger case. I also have and use for my main pc an sm550

I just watched LTT's build in the Metalfish S5 and indeed the case seems really cheap. Compared to other options like the Sliger SM570/SM580, the upcoming Dan C4-SFX, the FormD T1, or even the Ghost with a Large Top Hat, it would seem silly to spend that much money on a system and then cheap out on the case.
