I managed to squeeze an rtx5090fe into an 8 liter nuc 12 extreme.
The primary challenge is getting the gpu to fit with the top power cable, which involves using a low profile moddiy cable, and swapping out the top case fans for low profile noctuas.
And then additionally, upgrading the psu from the oem fsp 650w with custom cable to an fsp 850w atx3.1.
The upgraded psu can handle transient power spikes up to 200% the power rating, so it's handling the power demands of rtx5090 stably for me with no shutdowns so far.

here's the oem 650w psu removed, you can see it has a custom cable that connects the c14 power socket to the back of the case:
new psu with aliexpress extension cable:
had to cut the rubber strain relief boot off the c14 socket with wire clippers, only cutting needed
use m2.5x12mm flat round head machine screws to secure the noctuas to the top of the case after removing the oem fans and shroud
