Thermaltake Core G3 arrived today:

I would have never guessed that besides the fan, SFX's biggest real problem would be the AC connector.
I've removed the tab in the meanwhile.

On top: original case feet, on bottom: some random stick-on feet. Fan screw for size.

There's no need for such huge feet when you have no perforations on that side of the case. Or they expect this thing will vibrate and the feet solve it.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to do a build inside of it.

I have very strange keyboard layout requirements. I like compact for ergonomics and more mouse space, but my days in ghetto retail also taught me the value of number pads. I also wanted a dedicated arrow cluster (which disqualified the MasterKeys Pro M).

So now, the Massdrop group-buy I nearly forgot about has arrived from...somewhere in Shenzhen probably:
It's essentially a chunkier, noisier, more comfy version of the keyboard on my ThinkPad.

And since of course I forgot to buy SIP sockets I can't start pretending that I work at Foxconn today. Time to pillage Mouser/DigiKey...

The RS III is awesome! You're going to build it with an arrow cluster, right?

Yes, the case is quite good, I like the weight. Not so sure about the aluminum plate though. It came slightly warped and I've gotten used to steel-plate Duckies.

I will be building the layout with the arrow cluster. Would have just settled for a CM MasterKeys Pro M instead of paying out the nose for a semi-custom and then spending hours building it.

Speaking of which, it's been the devil's own task getting this multi-layout PCB set for soldering, not to mention stripping 200 SIP sockets for switch modification. But it's finally done. Tomorrow....er later today I start solder and final assembly. Might even get to flash it.

Alright...400+ solder points, 2 dead keys that turned out to not be dead, and 1 crappy driver later:

Turns it wasn't just my imagination, the plate really wasn't level, you can see the greatest amount of warp near the "M" key where the back-lighting is showing through. Also the clattery Cherry-style stabilizers were too small for the space bar so I had to use a dab of Elmer's glue to make it fit without permanently bonding the two together.

I think my Ducky One will remain in service, returned to stock configuration, the RSIII will replace the Ducky Mini:

Looking very good, @Phuncz ! Are you going to do anything about the warped plate or leave it how it is?

Yeah, @Phuncz, whatchu gonna do? :p

Me, I'm going to leave it as is, since it doesn't really affect functionality.

I'm not really a fan of DSA Dolch, but I absolutely love that layout. How many hours did the whole build take you?

It did look better on the Ducky One, but it was either this or the Max Keyboard translucent set and I only use that one for test fitting. Also I like Gorton Modified.

19 hours split over 3 days for the actual build, 1 hour for wrestling with Windows' refusal to install LUFA drivers and keycap transplant.

What is that physical layout style called?

Commonly called 96 key, 96% or G-1800 layout. Even though this one has 99 keys.

New lens! Canon 35-80mm :D

18U server rack.. for free..brand new. Fans are currently out for drying out (unit got a little wet)

3 touchscreen POS systems. One will be repurposed as a kitchen PC, one as a kids PC and the third is for spares.

More old hardware for spares

And some surveillance stuff to add some security to SFFn's NZ office (my house)!

Everything other than the lens was free. w00t. I did pick up some other stuff, but it's not as interesting. Also, I recieved a 3d printed part, but that's for another thread.

After a long wait I finally got a case for my Onion Omega 2+, actually I got two, the second as compensation for the extended wait and issues the first print shop had before it got farmed out to a different print shop (insert a grumble about thingivers / tradestock / australian businesses here).

So far I have notched the case for a u.fl - rp-sma pigtail, gotten it dirty and used wholly inappropriate screws to put it together. Future plans include either finding appropriate screws or countersinking the holes slightly, cleaning it up and maybe getting a second Omega to put in the spare case to see if I can build a truly portable keychain computer. Apologies for the cellphone photos.

This is a ridiculously small device. Not all that long ago the 1st gen G3 iMac had similar performance / specs.

The soft modded WiiU (vWii mode, haven't gotten around to fiddling w/ the other side yet) has eaten the last two HDD's that I've hung off it. As best as I can tell its not all that gentle w/ the drive at power up and has a tendency to just outright drop power to it when its done (leaving vWii mode for example). Solution... try an SSD. External SSD's are ludicrously expensive and I really dont need all the performance so I grabbed the cheapest SSD on New Egg that wasn't utter garbage and a cheap Orico USB case. Will hang it off the WiiU tonight and see how things go. I'm hoping the lack of mechanical parts will result in it being much more tolerant to the vWii's abusive DIY USB stack.

I recommend not using the Orico. I owned one and the adapter would go to sleep after a period of inactivity. It would not wakeup when the systems that it was connected to tried to access it.
