However, with the Scythe Slim Silence, and now the Prolimatech Ultra Sleek Vortex 12, that fact has slowly been changing as the performance of thin fans improves, and enclosures begin to necessitate such tighter profiles - indeed, with modern fan motors and blade designs, good performance is still possible even after shaving 10mm (a full 40%) off!

Isn't the scythe fan thinner, too? I know their slip stream thin line is 12mm thick, which is 3 less than the prolimatech, but wasn't the one on the Big Shuriken just 10mm? Either way, that should be mentioned in the article, I feel.

Ah, then I was thinking about the 80x10mm fan on the Kozuti, my bad. 3mm are quite significant here, that's a 20% decrease. In some builds, it could make all the difference.

Of course. Just wanted to point out that there is a tradeoff to the 2°C better temps you've measured, and that are the 3mm of additional space required.
