Nice rail solder points! That really is a good thing for SFF: not only can the PEG connector be repositioned to wherever you want it just by finding a way to route it out of the shroud, those nice big pads are perfect if you want to use a non-PEG connection method.

I can't see any reason it would be dodgy. It's basically a built-in PEG extension, but lower profile than you could achieve with any extension that needs to insert into an actual connector.

True, and I can't really give a good reason why I feel that way. Maybe it's just that it seems strange after all those years of having the connector directly on the PCB.

Im throwing my vote for the RX480. The card will likely be smaller than the 240mm reference seeing how the shroud hangs off by about 2 inches (~180-200mm most likely from partners) and because of the hardware async compute compared to nvidia's software compute. Also at this time the 1060 is rumored not to support SLI which would limit future options.

I'd wait for the 1060 to see how it goes, but Im still recommending the RX480.

For the record I saw another PCB photo and I don't think that PEG extender on the FE 1060 soldered on. It appears to actually a 4 pin white connector not unlike those on the PICO PSUs. From what I can tell, only the ground wire is soldered on (5 wires total I believe). Makes it seem a lot less ghetto/dodgy and also a lot more easily moddable.

**Edit** - Derp. Upon closer inspection, it looks like that is a fan header and the two holes on either side of it denoted "+" and "-" would be solder points. Dodgy it is!

Also to answer the OP here, have you considered waiting to see what the RX470 looks like? Apparently it could be closer than it probably should to RX 480's performance with a lower TDP and considerably lower price tag as well as what looks to be an ITX length reference design.

Maybe it's just me but those solder points look large enough to easily join multiple wires on each terminal- so it can allow basically the usual 2+3 or 3+3 pattern of a PEG 6-pin.

I saw on TPU they have the supposed Specs of the RX470, it looks like it's 2048 cores and 256 bit memory bus, almost the same as RX480.....it almost seems as though Polaris wasn't supposed to go into this range but AMD needed to push it to get something that could get into a higher mid-range market. If the RX470 specs are true, Nvidia needs to bring a serious competitor in the GTX 1050. I hope the RX460 can bring better than GTX 950 performance.

Even though the RX460 and RX470 are pictured with "reference" coolers, these will be offered as AIB solutions only, so custom coolers and most likely custom PCBs too. Although it does look nice and non-flashy, I hope manufacturers will also be offering less gamery cards.

Between 0% and 20% faster than the RX480, depending on the game. Price is 20% higher than the RX480 though.

It also offers the advantage of lower power output and thus reduced noise. I feel like the upgrade from the RX480 to the 1060 can be well worth it, especially with ITX cards where you only have one fan to cool the whole thing.

The lowered power consumption is also interesting for FlexATX users where more power output means more noise.

In Europe the price difference is much lower, too. The RX480 4GB goes for 249€ if you're lucky, the 8GB is 269€. The GTX 1060 starts at 279€. 30 bucks more for higher performance, 2GB more RAM, lower noise and lower power consumption? You bet I'd buy that.

Also, reviews prove that a skylake i7 and GTX1060 is a little under 200W under load. Very good news for HDPLEX 250W users.
