Accessory Review - INTEHILL 1920×1200 portable 8.9" USB-C Touchscreen - supports HDR and FreeSync

My old portable monitor broke, so I was looking for some alternative... Finally decided to go really SFF and got a 8.9" USB-C Touchscreen from INTEHILL.

Technical Data:

• IPS screen with 1920×1200 resolution, 60Hz
• HDR Support
• AMD FreeSync Support (48 ~ 60Hz)
• Input: 1x mini-HDMI, 2x USB-C
• 10 point touchscreen
• VESA 75mm mounting holes
• stereo speakers
• 211 x 143 x 9.5 mm size

Size comparison:

The monitor comes with: manual, carbon fiber optic cover/stand, USB-C to C cable, USB-A to C cable, mini HDMI to HDMI cable, AC adapter

The chassis is made from brushed, black anodized aluminum

perfect fit for a small portable setup with a 230W TaoBao GAN adapter:

My impressions so far...

PRO

• small and lightweight
• great picture quality and pretty good brightness for that size
• PD and DP over Type-C, so I only need to pack one cable
• good build quality, no chemical smell from the protection cover

CON

• FreeSync only via HDMI
• getting the native resolution (1920×1200) to work via Type-C is a bit tricky (HDMI works fine though):
  you need to use a better cable and manually setting up 1920×1200 as custom resolution in your GPU control panel
• speaker quality, well...

Nice Hades Canyon setup. Could you share a link for the aftermarket power adaptor from Taobao? I noticed it's much smaller than the OE adaptor. Is the adaptor any good to handle reasonably heavy load, e.g. 3D gaming / CAD modeling? Hades Canyon is quite power hungry for an NUC.

The Hades Canyon draws about 180 ~ 200W under full load (p95 & furmark combined). I have no long term experience with this adapter yet but didn't experience any issues so far.

Some impressions...

Pro:

• less than half the size of a typical 230W brick
• uses 4 real GAN Chips
• real 230/240W output, OCP will kick in over 240W

Con:

• DC cable is too thin for my taste, I would have preferred 14AWG or better
• "only" 94% efficiency, a well optimized design could do better
• like all GAN chargers, it gets quite toasty under high load
• actual output voltage is 20.30VDC (not 19.5) and will drop to 19.8VDC at the barrel connector under load (because of the cable resistance)

Seems legit. Been looking for a good higher wattage DC adaptor. Thank you~
