Prebuilt Review / benchmark suggestions for DeskMini X600 and Minisforum UM780XTX

Hey all,

Just got my hands on a Minisforum UM780XTX in the recent Amazon sales, and shortly will be receiving a review unit (temporary, sadly) of an ASRock DeskMini X600.

Would like to hear your requests for what benchmarks, tests, you'd like to see.

I have limited equipment but I can kinda test power draw.

I already plan to test with a few kits of 2x16GB SODIMM DDR5, firstly to see if they work at XMP/EXPO rated speeds/timings, if they can overclock and how much this impacts the iGPU performance.

In the case of the DeskMini I'll also be testing with 8600G vs 8700G, as well a higher rated power-supply.

I'll also be testing eGPU performance, through M.2/OCuLink (and USB4/TB3 in the case of the UM780XTX).
For this purpose I have an RTX A2000 (shunt-modded for 140W), RTX 4060LP, Radeon 6600XT and a few different SSDs I can use to test external PCIe functionality too.

I'll also be comparing the DeskMini X300 (5600G) to X600 (8600G)

It's too bad you can't get SO-DIMM over 6000 MHz but maybe you will get some that overclocks well. I know the upcoming ROG Ally X is using 7500 MHz ram, these Ryzens really seem to like fast memory. I'm curious how well the 120W brick does with a 8700g.

Didn't realize they had SO-DIMM up to 6400 MHz, nice.

Unfortunately the biggest gripe I have with the DeskMini series is still present: shitty IO options.
I don't understand why ASRock are gimping the IO options in their DeskMini machines, when it's clear that it's possible to include additional IO ports.
In particular why on the X600 side - why is it limited to 3.2 Gen1 maximum? That means 10Gbps USB ports, no DP output, so no single cable monitor/KVM connectivity.

Meanwhile on the mini PC side, there's already USB4, DP alt mode AND USB-PD (which I admit would be tricky with a full socketed board but technically possible!)

I would personally LOVE to see a "DeskMini PRO" option with USB 4 and DP Alt-mode - and I'd willingly pay extra for it, too.
I do wonder how much of it was making sure they could update to AM5/Zen4 with minimal other adjustments to the board layout (I mean at MINIMUM it's already ~400 more CPU connections, plus changing from DDR4 to DDR5 to manage so it's not a small amount of work)

JM says it didn't show any sign of life with the 12V adapter he tried

For the sake of my testing I've now received my 8700G, unfortunately the 6400/C38 Kingston Fury SODIMMs are a few days away still

I've also ordered a few cables, adapters, etc. for messing around with my eGPU setup, and some extras for the DeskMini...
