Just seen the prices...

June 2025, bought two Crucial Pro RAM DDR5 128GB Kit (2x64GB) 5600MHz CP2K64G56C46U5 costing €339 each, for a total of €678

Now it costs €1405 each for a sum of €2810. A total €2132 difference

It absolutely is. Systems with soldered memory these days make a ton of sense financially. At least for now until ther prices are adjusted too.

What I’m wondering is how long Nvidia and AMD keep bothering making GPUs for consumers which is nothing but an opportunity cost to them when they could make AI slop hardware instead.

After having my graphics card die at the peak of the last GPU shortage, I'm getting anxiety with this shortage. The best we can hope is that all the speculation into the AI bubble is over and all companies dumping millions into FOMO, finally admit the only company actually making money with AI is Nvidia. But not only RAM and storage are insanely expensive, GPUs are already being reduced in production, as well as motherboards and basically every other PC component because of the shortage. Even cell phones will become more expensive.

Well, speculation goes like: Revival of 13 and 12th gen Intel, to be able to use DDR4. And people on AM5 are basically fscked. Lucky me that I bought this 64 GB kit, with stomach cramps, for 350 Euro incl. shipping. 🤢

Oh, and fitting to this topic:

Nvidia is reportedly going to significantly cut back on gaming GPU production if the rumor is to be believed.

After a couple of years using my PC with x2 16Gb DDR4 3600 (paid MXN$2,500 for both in january 2024), yesterday realized 32Gb is not enuf anymore for my needs, I wanted to cry when saw the price of each 32Gb 3200 stick MXN$3,600, the prices are rising and they are not even DDR5 (the prices must be half as is older tech), so not good news on "retro" builds with DDR4.
Last month purchased 32Gb 6000 DDR5 for a client for MXN$2,200, today same RAM, same brand, same model costs MXN$7,200... it's the PC build apocallipse, is worse than GPUpocallipse because none of the RAM being made for IA is gona find it's way back into PC enthusiasts when IA bubble busrts like the RTX GPUs did because HMB RAM is not PC compatible 😭
Samsung is not gonna make SSD in 2026 (maybe in 2027 will be back into SSD production), it's related to RAM as you can see how much are focusing production into HMB RAM.
Micron is not making DDR5 for consumers since november, just killed the Crucial brand, all that production capacity is going to be used into HMB RAM.
SK Hinix have not given news yet on the RAM production, but seing the movements of the other 2 big RAM chips fabricators you can expect same HMB production focus...
