Years ago I bought a awesome little htpc case. Inside it had a internal Psu board with a laptop style 12v power adapter. The Psu board looks identical to this one...

The power adapter is this one..

Well starting yesterday my PC kept restarting and after shutting it down, today it will not boot at all. I believe it's this Psu unit that has failed.

What would you guys recommend as a replacement? Would I also need to replace the power adapter? I've had a few financial things come up lately so I'd like to fix it as cheap as possible. I'd really appreciate any help you guys could offer.

Do you have the brand and model of the case ? This will allow people to suggest solutions that actually fit inside the case.

Is your power adapter 60W (5A over 12V) and the power supply like the afformentioned PSU 120W (10A over 12V) ? Because if that's the case, it's most likely the power adapter that had a too large amount of current drawn from it, by the power supply. This means you'd have to replace the power adapter with a 120W 12V model instead of the power supply board.

I'd also caution against "as cheap as possible" on power supplies, because it's the device that powers all your devices. Meaning if something goes wrong, it might destroy other components, meaning "as cheap as possible" will become "need to pay twice and replace the components it took down with it". Not saying it should be expensive, but don't cheap out on a power supply, you're gambling between saving a few bucks and destroying hundreds of dollars worth of hardware.

If money is tight, consider not spending money at all to replace this until you have some disposable income. Use your PC or another device as a replacement, borrow someone's excess hardware or devices perhaps.
