Hi,
I have been gifted Datto XL 3000, aka Datto AXL. I have thrown at it i7-4770S and more VLP RAM (as it was lying around).
The OEM cooler is an LP server cooler, which is very loud and cannot keep up with the i7. The CPU won't let me lower the power; turning off Hyperthreading didn't help, and undervolting isn't giving much of a temp gain (also, don't want to risk writing errors in a NAS box, as there is no ECC RAM in it). Only the setting that actually works temperature-wise is turning off the cores, at least one. So I'm thinking about getting better cooling for it instead.
Clearance from the IHS to the top (HDD's Bay) is 38.25mm, so it can practically take one of the low-profile coolers on the market. My concern is the remaining 1.25 mm-2.25 mm gap, depending on the cooler. Will this be enough for them coolers to work efficiently? Please advise.
So I thought it might not be enough, or it would generate more noise or something. Then why not throw at it AIO? The back clearance, where the case fan is 48mm deep (I have used angled molex connectors there to achieve that). So this space should be able to take a 27mm thick radiator and a 15mm thick 120mm fan. But would that be enough for cooling the case and the CPU?
This will also require heavy modding of the case - but hey, that's what the spirit of this forum is, right?
