Hi all! First time posting, but have been lurking around SFF builds/community for a while :)

I currently have the following part which I'm contemplating on turning into a second PC possibly running Linux and as a dedicated streaming/media consumption PC.

  • CPU: i7 4770k (won't be OCing)
  • Mobo: Asus z87i-PRO
  • RAM: G.Skill Sniper (2x8GB) 1866MHz
  • Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 500G or 840 EVO 250G (undecided yet)
  • 2nd Storage: Maybe an USB3 external drive. (undecided as well)

Seeing as 4770k is a 95W TDP CPU, I'm a bit concerned on whether 150w PSU is enough. However looking at this build, https://pcpartpicker.com/b/tRxG3C with a 95W TDP 9600k, I'm now kinda leaning on the "is enough" side :/

Has anyone else had builds that stretched the Chopin PSU and found it usable? Anything I might need to look out for if I'm gonna go ahead with the case?

Thanks.

I ran my i3770K 77W with gtx750 ti 75W card in an S4 mini case with 2SSDs for years with an hdplex 160w PSU.

Power draw is greatly over thought by PCMR or whatever group spreads this thinking (propaganda funded by the big PSU makers XD).

Here people run an 8700k and 1080ti off a 400W psu.

That 150W is going to be fine, and even allow overclocking.

Thanks for the reply guys! This is good to hear!

I'll keep looking around while waiting for the case to come back in stock at my retailer.
Gonna run the setup nude for now ?

I'm going to putting my TS server in my inwin case (the same one as the Chopin but with the optical slot) and run it 24/7 with a 5370 AM1 CPU.

I can trip the OCP (Over Current Protection) on my Chopin's 150W CPU with an overclocked G3258 (at 4.7GHz) and an AMD RX460 if I ran OCCT stressing both GPU and CPU. Removing the over-voltage for the CPU solved it (1.30V to 1.01V). Overclocked, the CPU would pull well over 60W and the GPU is rated at 75W. So I do expect it will perform up to 150W but not that far beyond. The 4770K at stock shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, IIRC I had turbo shut down on 3770K but that was as much for the L9i as anything, turbo would eventually overtax it.
