As the title suggests I am looking for the best cooler when considering temps and noise. I think the 9800X3D runs hot.

I intend to upgrade to the new 5000 range when available, likely a 5080.

Advice on which cooler to select is much appreciated given the need to accomodste large gpu and cool a 9800xt3d

Thanks

Update: i am leanining towards Thermaright AXP90-X47 Full Copper and replacing the fan on it with the Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM.

Considering we don't know how big 50 series will be but should count on 60mm that cooler is your best choice.

Personally, I've gone for the Thermaright AXP90-X53 Full Copper. Is not quite as low-profile as the X47, but should have superior cooling capacity - up to 155W TDP, I believe. I had not thought of changing the fan, as I like the colour fan it comes with.

If you can find a way of NOT importing the heat from ANY GPU into your case, I'd do so. I've just designed my own case, and kept the GPU completely external to the case, by using a short PCIe Riser Cable that goes under the side of the case, to an external extension of the base of the case. That way I'm not limited to size or power of GPU. Though I will have to provide it with its own SFX PSU, as the PCIe Slot can only supply 750W. But I won't need to buy an iGPU, nor a motherboard that support Thunderbolt, USB4 or OCuLink. :-)

I'm in the process of uploading details of my build right now. It is only 5 litres, has 4 x 2.5" Hot-Swappable Drives, plus up to three M.2 Slots and an HDPLEX 250W GaN Fanless PSU. I'm waiting for CES announcements and reviews, to decide between a 9950x3D plus GPU, or possibly a Strix HALO APU. The whole thing is designed to fit in my briefcase or old DEC laptop bag. I already have all the parts for the case. Build starts after Christmas.

The X53 actually comes with a better 15 mm fan than the Noctua, its just that the Noctua sound profile is nicer. In terms of performance, the supplied 92 x 15 mm fan is even beating out most regular sized 92 x 25 mm fans.

Other option: X47 Full Copper + 25 mm fan + Silversoul 110.

The SS 110 supplies you with TWO important things:

1. Best regularly available 92 x 25 pwm fan (in terms of cooling performance, not noise) and ..

2. A set of 25 mm fan brackets that fit any 92 mm Thermalright CPU cooler - eg. if you dont want to use the before-mentioned 25 mm fan, but a different brand; its actually TWO sets, so you could still use the SS 110 in a different build, too :)

Yes. thats about the only way - except maybe asking the Thermalright support nicely - to get ahold of those parts. So if you've wondered where reviewers / testers got these - they had them still sitting around from a test of the SS 110 :D

And X47, because: What I read so far is, that in terms of performance, the X47 and X53 FULL Copper are almost identical. And if you have like 60 mm to spare, you can still go with a 25 mm fan (57 + 3 mm distance to avoid the noise issue with the Terra side panels; maybe optimize with the Noctua NA-FD1 foam set).

cu, w0lf.

ps: Beware if you pick a Gigabyte board - their sockets are 1 - 2 mm higher than the rest. So in that case, a X47 (full copper) is a must have.
