News EVGA X99 Micro2 with USB 3.1 Type C!

Well this is unexpected. This is not just taking the X99 Micro and tacking on a Type C conector either. The caps are blacked out, CMOS battery is moved to a very convenient location. M.2 supports a useful length SSD, hopefully the M.2 has the lanes to be worthwhile without gimping the bottom slot.

If this keeps the 3.0 x8 support on the bottom slot and the Asus is really 2.0 x4 on the 4th slot I may have found my new motherboard

EVGA is giving finishing touches to the X99 Micro2, is latest socket LGA2011v3 motherboard, in the micro-ATX form-factor. The board is characterized by support for two USB 3.1 ports, including a type-C port. Most of the feature-set from the original X99 Micro, is carried over. This includes a 10-phase CPU VRM, three PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots (full-time x16/x16/x8), a 32 Gb/s M.2 slot, with NVMe BIOS support, making up its expansion area. The board supports up to 64 GB of quad-channel DDR4 memory. Storage connectivity on the X99 Micro2 includes ten SATA 6 Gb/s ports, apart from the 32 Gb/s M.2 slot. Other modern connectivity includes two USB 3.1 ports (at least one of which is type-C), six USB 3.0 ports (four on the rear panel, two by header), 8-channel HD audio with ground-layer isolation, and a headphones amp; and gigabit Ethernet. EVGA didn't announce pricing or availability.

Not only did they surprise me with a refresh, but they put a Type-C instead of Type-A and M.2. Pretty interesting.

A fine looking board, I'll keep this one on the radar. If the audio is on the level and the M.2 supports NVMe over 4 lanes PCIe 3.0, this might be a good board for the Kimera case.

Blacked out capacitors, very nice
Looks like they removed the voltage checkpoint breakout header but I didn't find it that useful anyway
More Sata
Right-angle USB 3.0 header!!!
Bottom of the RAM slots don't have tabs, so RAM can be installed/removed without taking the video card out
CPU socket is still way too close to the top slot so limited air cooling options, that's a bummer

Is the CPU slot actually any closer than the Asrock?

If so, this wouldn't apply to the Kimera, but it would be a situation where the Noctua NH-D15S would serve benefit over the standard D15.

A really nice board which actually was designed (after a revision) for the use of a 2-slot GPU in the bottom slot.
Now let's hope it uses an Intel Gbit NIC and Realtek ALC1150 with front-panel headphone-amplifier.

EVGA usually uses Intel NICs. The original did so I would think this revision does as well.

Everything seems to indicate it is still capable of x8 on the bottom. The real question is the lane allocation for that M.2. It maybe 2.0 based and doesn't interfere with the PCIe slots at all.

If it's 3.0 then I'm not sure how they'll split it. Maybe it'll share with the 2nd slot and that'll drop to x8 and the M.2 will be x4. The other way would be to split the bottom slot for x4 / x4. I hope they go with the former, x16 vs x8 is negligible for gaming so that way spaced SLI would be possible at the same time as full-speed M.2
