Hey!

I think Palit's passively cooled 1050 is a really awesome idea, but I can't seem to find it available anywhere within the US. I'm going to be building a HTPC and I would like for it to be as-silent-as possible, so I'm wondering if there are any similar passive cooling solutions that I might be able to find aftermarket.

Another mark against the Palit offering is that I'd really like to be able to throw a 1060 or a 480 into my HTPC, which the 1050 is not. So, in terms of thermals, that's kind of what I'm looking at. I definitely could settle for a 1050 if it's the only modern card that can feasibly be passively cooled.

All that said, I can live with a no-GPU system as I will have a gaming computer to in-home-stream from. It just benefits to have a second computer that can play games in case I have a friend over and we want to play games that don't have local co-op together. Or if I want to emulate on the HTPC, since it's kind of clunky to set up emulators on steam in-home streaming--I don't know if you've ever tried.

If you are in the living room, a decent modern computer with good heatsink/fans won't be heard where you're sitting. My deshrouded 1060 with a 120mm fan cooling is very quiet from 3 feet away. At 10 feet you cannot hear it.

Palit has no vendor representing it in North America, unfortunately. I only see them sold in Europe at a higher cost compared to other 1050's.

If you are okay with something less powerful, get the XFX 460 2GB. The 4GB version isn't worth the price, though, as you won't really see much benefit of 4GB over 2GB for the performance it provides at 1080p.

I don't know what case you're using, but if the Accelero is too long I used to run my 750ti Passively under a Alpenfohn Peter II. (I still have it and am not using it, if you're interested)

From what I understand, Galax in the US is the same as Palit. They don't offer the passively cooled 1050 in the US as far as I can tell, though.

Raijintek Morpheus is another option for a third party cooler, if your case can fit it. The Peter II is definitely shorter, though.
