I built my current machine in 2012, which I've upgraded off and on. The current components are:
Windows 10 Pro 64
Sugo SG01-F case.
ASUS Rampage Gene III mATX
SilverStone Strider Plus Modular SST-ST75F-P 750W
Intel i7 930
Kingston HyperX 12GB Kit (3x4GB Modules) 1600MHz DDR3 DIMM
ATI FirePro V5900
Crucial SSD 128gb Drive (OS)
WD 1T drive (Data)
It's getting long in the tooth and I'd like to build something new that will be smaller (ITX) and quieter. (The current machine has 6 fans)
I'm hoping to base the machine around this MoBo when available. https://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-Strix-X370-I-Gaming/ and a Ryzen 1800.
This machine would not be for gaming but for 3d Modeling, CAD work, and graphic design. I was planning to reuse the workstation ATI FirePro video card from the old system.
I'm not up on the current technologies but I am researching and reading. There are some questions I hope the bright people here can help me with.
1. Is there any reason I should NOT use the ATI FirePro V5900?
2. I'm at a loss regarding all the memory options. What would be the fastest memory acceptable with that MoBo?
3. Even with 6 fans, my current machine got super hot when render processing. Would water cooling be recommended, or has air cooled technology improved, and would be good enough?
4. I was told that current systems do not need the power of older technologies. The 750W PSU in my current system weighs a ton. How small can I go with the parts I'm interested in using?
Basically, I'd like to build the smallest, quietest, fastest, lightest, CAD workstation possible.
I'm combining a list of potential components, so if anyone has suggestions please post. I the past I've been partial to Silverstone products, but in my reading I see a lot of new options out there. Any ITX Cases or other component suggestions are welcome.
