Hey everyone,

I'm currently doing my research on building a ~$2k Gaming SFF based on the Dan Cases A4-SFX 4.1.

~ $2,000

I'm looking for advice from the community ?
  • Does this list make sense?
  • Do I miss anything / any components?
  • Are these components compatible (e.g. dimensions)?
  • Can I optimize anything (e.g. CPU vs GPU balance)?
Cheers,
FraBle90

The only thing I'll say or rather ask is if you'll be upgrading to the 3000 series RTX when they drop -- I'm reading that their entry level $500 cards are going to match or exceed 2080 supers -- meaning you may find it hard getting a competitive price when reselling that GPU.

1. I think 32GB Ram is useless for gaming -> 16GB is perfect for the next years.
2. why do you want to water-cool the 3700x? in my opinion the a4 with 92mm are not look that good and the cable routing is hard
-> maybe switch to the alpenföhn blackridge with a Noctua nf-a9x14hs (chromax) -> that's more than enough for the 3700x. I used that combo with a lil undervolt (1.2v) and the results are amazing -> 4.25GHz Boost (standard) and 65C max temp. But the Blackridge need LP Ram like the corsair lpx (maybe 3200/CL16)
== the saved cash can be invested in a better gpu -> but the 2070 Super is the best price to performance gpu.

@kmnvhs BR will not work out of the box with X570i Aorus, either you need to remove the PCH fan/heasink combo or have to shift the fan towards the heatpipes to clear. 32GB RAM is good for future proof, Chrome just eats RAM for days.

@FraBle90 maybe get 3600Mhz RAM instead for some extra performance. If you strictly game, maybe switch to a 3600 (100USD cheaper) or 3600XT (4.5Ghz boost clock) + a B550i board for a more optimized config. And echoing above comment about the GPU, I would not feel comfortable dropping 500USD on a card when it's so close to the launch of the new generation. Maybe get something in the 250-300 range as temp/placeholder and then upgrade. Hope it helps.

1. it works out of the box (blackridge + Aorus x570i) - plug and play without any problems (do it in a A4, Louqe S1).
2. nobody uses chrome if you prefer privacy stuff -> use firefox for better privacy
