CRYORIG C7 Cu – Dat Copper Tho

Just before Computex 2017, we were treated to a sneak preview of something different – the CRYORIG C7, but in all copper form. With claims of 10-15% improvement in initial testing, down to community members reporting no real improvement, the C7 Cu has been a controversial product to say the least. With a review unit in hand (finally!), today we set out to review the C7 Cu versus the original aluminium variant. Unfortunately, we gave away our original CRYORIG C7 some time ago, so with the help of SFF Network Patrons, we picked up a new one to enable apples …

Streacom’s FC8 Reviewed – Shhh!

Passive cooling is one of the holy grails of computing – a high performance system without any moving, and thus noise producing, parts. Streacom has been producing passive system cases for some years now, emphasising both quality and performance in their products. I’ve been looking to see what all the fuss is about for some time, and recently the opportunity has arisen for this to finally happen. A while back, I looked at passive cooling, running a 65w APU under a giant Scythe Ninja heatsink. While the results were promising from a pure temperature perspective, the system was unwieldy, heatsink …

GT1030s Appear from MSI and Gigabyte

NVIDIA’s first ‘new’ sub **50 cards in an age (since the GT210/610, etc were just rebrands!) have started to appear, with both MSI and Gigabyte showing off some interesting variants of the GPU intended to compete with AMD’s RX-550 line. All are based on NVIDIA’s Pascal GP108-300 core, produced on a 16nm FinFET process. Each card has 384 CUDA cores, 24 TMUs and 8 ROPs. Also identical across the cards is the RAM- 2GBs of DDR5 1750MHz (7000MHz effective), with 56GB/s bandwidth. GPU clock speeds have yet to be announced, But I expect the active cooled variants to be clocked …

Spotted: Zotac GTX 1050 Mini and GTX 1050 TI Mini

Keeping a low profile is important for keeping the people watching me from seeing everything… No wait, we’re talking about low profile graphics here. Sent in through our tipline, one of our observant readers has spotted that Zotac is readying two new LP ‘Mini’ cards – a GTX 1050 and a GTX 1050 TI. Both cards are bus powered, are rated at 75w, and feature the same dual-40mm cooling design, based on an extruded aluminium heatsink. The Zotac GTX 1050 TI Mini features a base clock of 1290MHz, with boost to 1392MHz. 4GB GDDR5 is specified, on a 128 bit …

Galax GTX 1050 Ti OC LP and GTX 1070 OC Mini pictured

Thanks to a tip from forum member RobonHood, we’ve learned that GALAX has quietly announced their own low-profile GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1050 video cards, the GALAX GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC LP and GALAX GeForce GTX 1050 OC LP respectively. And while investigating the low-profile cards, I also found that GALAX now has a short GTX 1070 Mini! GALAX GTX 1050 Ti/GTX 1050 OC LP Amazingly, this is the third low-profile 1050/1050 Ti announced within the last few months! First was MSI, with the GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP and GTX 1050 2GT LP back in November, and then GIGABYTE, also with both …

Gigabyte Sneaks their GTX1050 and 1050TI Cards on to their Website

Thanks to our news tip line (here), we have been advised that Gigabyte has sneakily launched their low profile GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti lines. They both appear to be using the same cooler and rear IO as the venerable GTX 750 Ti (that I myself run). SilverStone has unveiled the ultra low-profile NT08-115XP

SilverStone has unveiled a new addition to their Nitrogen series of products: the 33mm ultra-low-profile NT08-115XP. Made specifically for the Intel platform (supporting Intel LGA1150/1151/1155/1156 processors), this little beauty has a solid copper base and weighs in at 292 grams. The 11-fin, 80mm x 10mm thick PWM fan pushes nearly 16CFM of air at 28dBA and is capable of dissipating thermal loads up to 65 watts. Below you can see that it uses Intel’s standard push-pin design. As much as I loathe push-pins, SilverStone’s grade of plastic seems less prone to self-destruction. The high-density aluminum fin structure is centered around an open cavity just above the solid …

MSI has released the GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP

SFF Forum member NateDawg72 has shared exciting news of MSI’s new low-profile GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP on the forums. Without official news or any social media announcements, this card appears to have slipped completely under the radar. MSI’s new GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP card replaces MSI’s aging GTX 750 Ti 2GB LP that was released in November of 2014. This card, like the previous one, is a dual-slot, dual-fan GPU solution with a height of just 69mm. It requires no additional 6/8-pin power (max 75 watts) making it the perfect companion for that slim case with low-profile slots that you have been eyeing. Here are the specifications as …

Reeven Vanxie – Sufficient Cooling

After the recent reviews of two of Reeven’s other products, the call from our community came out – they want to see how Reeven’s smallest cooler, the Vanxie, performs. Today we have that cooler on our SFF test bench to see how it performs. The main competitor, the Noctua L9A, has already been through the gauntlet, how will the Vanxie compare? As an aside, I applaud Reeven for their (amusingly) honest marketing for this cooler. From their specification that the cooler is for SFF systems, to the following quote from the page on their website; Sufficient Cooling Cooling efficiency in …
