Apple has launched it’s latest processor, the M2. Featuring a revised cache and core structure,  Apple claims that the M2 is 18 percent faster on CPU tasks, 40% faster at Neural Engine tasks, and a 35 percent more powerful GPU. Additionally, Apple has reworked the integrated memory controller to provide 50 percent more bandwidth, with up to a 24GB shared memory pool at 100GB/s bandwidth. Additionally, playback for ProRes video at 8K is now built in, with a new image signal processor to provide better image noise reduction.

Apple will initially ship the M2 in the redesigned MacBook Air and the updated 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Personally, I haven’t used an Apple computer full time since the 1990s, unless you count the iPad mini or iPhone. Still, it’s good to see other processing options other than Intel and AMD. More competition is always good.
